AIBU?

Redbull

I drink the odd can of Redbull every now and again as I feel it's a bit of a pick me up in the morning instead of coffee, etc. When I bring a can into work it's as if I'm drinking the devils juice! Does anyone else get the same reaction?

I always find red bull, monster etc in the morning ( or anytime really) a bit odd but don't comment on it. Has someone said something?

I think it smells vile but chacun à son goût and all that.

I thought that there was no more caffeine in redbull than in a cup of coffee.

Yeah i just get the same reaction from people every time I drink the stuff. Usually something along the lines of 'ooh someone's had a bad night'. Not really, I just fancy it once in a while.

I guess it's the same amount of chemicals as Coke or whatever? Just with more lovely lovely caffeine added. Not sure why some people are all weird about it when the same people aren't so bothered by other fizzy drinks. Maybe someone on mumsnet will have the answer, perhaps it is really much worse for our health

I bloody love an ice cold bully. I used to like the occasional one at my desk and never quaffed a whole without someone commenting on its contents and what evils it was releasing on my body.

I have one every morning, not sure how I'd get through the day without it

Heaven in a can!

I drink the odd can and get the same looks as you, it's my only vice, so people can sod off,

Red Bull is delicious - I haven't had one for ages but really fancy it now... I would drink it out of a mug to avoid the comments, not that they are justified!

I have the odd can, think it's more to do with the taurine than caffeine content. Our city college has a ban on energy drinks on the premises.

i use monster or redbull when in a pinch for example mother in laws visiting and the house looks like hell or i have been ill thus why the house a state but not often

Those drinks are like 5-6 cups of coffee in one it can put a strain on the heart .As long as you keep them a once a week thing their fine but drink to many can cause heart trouble

people have had heart damage from drinking to many of those things but like most things everything in moderation a little is good to much is bad .Thus why they have a bad reputation but really you just need to be sensible

I fucking hate the smell and would never drink it on its own. S'ok with voddie though...

It's my only vice but I know what you mean op. Sometimes I feel like one of those little G and T cans would get a warmer reception when spotted on my desk at 11am. Grin

I have it occasionally at work and without fail someone comments. I can only drink it when it's ice cold though.

I give it to my FC at 4pm each day. It helps her focus and stay calm. (she has ADHD).

I use to get the same reaction when i drank it at work. To be fair, I used to drink a lot of it. Maybe about 3-4 cans a day. I used to do shift work and I found it was the only thing that got me through.

When I went to shops it was usually the first thing I would pick up. I decided to nip it in the bud as I realised how unhealthy I was being. I haven't drank one in about two years.

I don't think the odd one here or there is bad.

I have a can of redbull for breakfast every morning. I don't cope well without it.

I thought taurine was a good thing? Off to google...

Get that reaction all the time at work. My colleagues will think nothing of knocking back 6 sugary coffees (wish I liked it but even the smell makes me want to vom) but I get a lecture for even having a nice cold can of redders in the staff room fridge. I think my favourite quote was from the manager of a different ward, who shouted in front of the entire unit "why can't you just have a nice bowl of bran flakes?? They'll give you much more energy'".

Fucking bran flakes. Seriously.

Buy healthy drink, drink it then top up with red bull! No comments and you can feel happy with your RB as you've had something healthy too Smile

I sporadically have a can for a quick energy hit. I don't drink tea or coffee so otherwise have a limited intake of caffeine. It tends to be if I've had a particularly demanding phase at work causing late nights and early starts, or to fuel an intense exercise session where I don't have time to digest food comfortably in advance.

What I don't like seeing is teenagers habitually swigging away on litre bottles of the cheap versions for their breakfast. It's not a great start to the day, and it's not a good long term habit.

An adult using it conciously in an otherwise sensible lifestyle is fine. Given the amount of sugar and caffeine that can be consumed through things like coffee, energy drinks aren't substantially different.

My shitty doctor won't up my thyroxine as I'm borderline on bloods tests. I wouldn't get past 3pm without the stuff at the minute. I'm not a coffee drinker and certainly don't judge those that are but there is a snobbery about how you take your caffeine.

YABU just because it reminds me of many a violent hangover from drinking it with vodka Envy

I drink at least one can a day. Sometimes 2/3.
I'm constantly exhausted but in a bit of a vicious cycle with them as they lead to funny headaches. I think I probably have too many but struggle to cope energy-wise without.
They're not great for you OP but people should mind their own.
