AIBU?

To think my neighbours are too nice?

I've got nothing to complain about. No bin disputes, no parking inssues, no noise complaints. Just nothing. All our neighbours are just too nice.

The only thing I can think of is that our next door neighbours have a beautiful fir tree in front of their house and they don't put any Christmas lights on it! I wonder if it's considered rude if i offer to put some lights on it this year?
(I'm not actually a nutter who lights up our whole house at Christmas i just think such a nice tree SHOULD have some lights on)

Most boring AIBU post of the evening over.

they might
a) put in a complaint about you
or
b) move

Defiantly not. If they were me I would think you were a busy body. Grin

They'll have a body or two under the patio, the nice ones alway do.

So does that mean you are the neighbour that everyone complains about.. ;)

I think the tree lights sound great. Are they very concerned with being "tasteful" though, so no garden decorations?

I think it might be basis for an episode of Channel 5's Nightmare Neighbour Next Door.

Cue Bob and Linda (igotnotimeforthis's neighbours) sitting on floral sofa, looking sadface into camera

Linda: She was very nice at first

Bob: Yes nice

Linda: But she had a thing about our tree

Bob: Tree yes

Linda: She would stand in her front garden just looking at it

Bob: Looking yes

Voiceover: But things were about to take a very odd turn for the worse

Linda: (now clutching Ainsley floral mug of tea) We woke up one morning - it must have been about the twentieth of December

Bob: Twentieth yes

Linda: I opened the curtains to see horrid gaudy lights all over our tree

Bob: Lights all over yes

(Cue video reconstruction inc. shaky cam footage)

Linda: Those flashing lights you see in B&Q

Bob: Yes B&Q

Linda: I went straight round next door in my housecoat and asker her what she thought she was playing at

Bob: Playing at yes

Linda: At first she denied everything but then I saw her muddy boots, the gaffer tape and the stepladder in the porch

Bob: Stepladder

Linda: I said "We're having it out right here now"

Bob: Right now

Linda: I asked her if she thought it was appropriate to put Christmas lights all over our tree, especially as we are satanists and don't celebrate Christmas

Bob: Christmas yes

Linda: She seemed to think this was hilarious and kept mentioning something called Mumsnet and how she was going to tell everyone on there about how weird and boring we are

Bob: Nest of Vipers yes

Cut to ad break

continues ad nauseum for forty minutes

We had some lovely neighbours several years ago. They split up and moved away - turned out they were part of a swinging club in our cul de sac and it had gone wrong for 2 couples anyway! Was before we moved in tho - or I would have been miffed we hadn't been invited!(wouldn't have gone but nice to have been asked!)

Bravo talc

I'd love if a batty neighbour came over and insisted on Christmas lights being displayed on my tree.

Especially in early October or even better, mid summer

When we first moved into our village we were asked to dinner by a lovely local couple in their 30s we were 20s. Had a lovely time but never asked back!

Found out later they were head of a swinging ring and had recruited loads to the group.

So we failed to bloody well get asked. Still blame dh and his going on about bloody fishing. Sad

Wouldn't have taken up the offer but still feel like regects 30 years on. Grin

But really their tree is very nice!

I do sometimes wonder if we are the bad neighbours, but If they complain about us, then to whom? So far nothing has got back to us.
And I don't think we are that annoying anyway. No parties ever, I wish we had some, but instead have two young DC, noisier inside the house usually than out unfortunately.
I have a noisy car, but never start it before 9am and I'm always home by 7pm latest...
Damn we are boring!

But yes, could have jinxed it nowConfused

just thought of a great idea!
What if i leave a Christmas present at their door - a box of lights addressed to their tree.

Is that acceptable?

If you're feeling left out I've got some awful people next door but one you can have. Think pissed at 11am, music loud enough to wake the dead, sectarian football chants and you're about there. They could really lower the tone for an afternoon!

I like tree lights, but I'd find that pretty odd TBH, especially if it was anonymous!

How about mentioning you are placing an online order for some Christmas items and have noticed some great lights which you wondered if they'd like for their tree?
