I'm a ta in a school I was on duty at lunch time today the head came out and reminded me there was first aid training 3.30-6.30 tonight I had totally forgotten. It was mentioned in July before we split up and I did write it down but as I said I'd forgotten. I frantically rang my mum to ask if she could pick my 2 children up from the school, mum had plans this afternoon so couldn't. I tried eldest ds who I know is off work today but no answer so I tried one of the other mums who sometimes helps me with pick ups, still couldn't find anyone to help. The head teacher had already told me everyone needed first aid training and the course was for the only 8 people in school who don't have it and she had paid a lot of money for everyone to attend, I'm only on a temporary contract as the child I work with is in year 6 so I will be hoping the head can find something else for me next year ( there will be 4 tas in the same position so don't want to put a foot wrong any little thing could be the reason I don't get another job) anyway as a last resort I rang oh to ask if he could finish work at 3 he works in an office I know it was short notice but he was the last resort he wasn't very happy but he did it. I've been getting the silent treatment since I got in at 7.30 ( shattered and hungry) he just said he's now got a whole afternoons work to catch up on and how stupid I was for forgetting. I know it's my fault but I think he is ott he even took the kids to maccy ds rather than cook for them, I've just got in and had to cook for myself make packed lunches and get uniforms ready for the morning. I understand he's cross and it was very last minute but it's not the end of the world? Finishing 2 hours earlier is not missing the whole afternoon.

Why didn't you ring him first? How many times since you have been working has he missed 2hours at work! You needed the course hardly big deal surely he can go work hour earlier tomorrow and stay an hour later. Job done. Childish ass

He's being a twat!

JellyBelli Tue 11-Oct-16 20:51:04

He's sulking and punishing you for one mistake, so no YANBU flowers

He's being a shit. (Unless you often forget things and cause disruptions.)

For most office jobs I know of, if you finish 2 hours early, that would count as a half day, many don't have the concept of a quarter day. Not fair but it is common.

That said, the silent treatment is never OK.

On a practical level, get Google Calendar or similar on your phone, set events like that to remind you a week in advance. Share the calendar with OH so you don't double book on each other. Honestly Google Calendar is one of my most favourite things in the world. It has saved me from so many disasters like this. So so so many.

Is he the one who has to stay off work when sc are ill, it have appointments? Does he take them to clubs?

BrianMolkoismyPlacebo Tue 11-Oct-16 20:59:40

Dc are ill, or have appointments!!!

Velvian Tue 11-Oct-16 21:00:24

YANBU. He agreed to do it, it's a one off. When you're a parent you sometimes need to leave work immediately, that's life. He might have had a bad though, maybe he was looking forward to seeing the kids & they were disappointed it was him meeting them?

day

How is he being a twat? He got the OP out of the crap by having the DC at short notice after she'd forgot about the training.

confused

Brian no he has never had a day off work while the kids are ill well one day when dd had an operation. If they have an appointment I take them, I pick them up from clubs, generally if I need someone to help out I ask my mum. I've already sorted mum to have the kids next week for the second part of training. He doesn't have the kind of job where he will have to make up the hours he will obviously have work to catch up on.

Sorry, but I think you should have been more organised.

BusyBeez99 Tue 11-Oct-16 21:33:49

I second google calendar. Never forget anything now

Helpisathand13 Tue 11-Oct-16 21:35:54

Mistakes happen, people forget. You sorted the crisis, attended the training and family in one piece. Job done. Apology for forgetting and thanks for short notice take over. Job done. Don't beat yourself up. X

I think it's shit that you're both working but you're default parent.
