To think giving away mystery tattoos is a weird thing to do?

There was a thing in Time Out that said that some well known tattoo artist was going to give away tattoos to people who volunteered on a certain date but they have to stick their arm through a hole and can't know what they're having.

I find this very strange. I don't have tattoos but don't dislike them (apart from bad ones). However, I'd always thought it was important for a tattoo artist to spend a lot of time agreeing with the client what they want before they get started. I've heard of artists sending people away for 24hours to make absolutely sure that they want a tattoo.

Although I'm sure that people will get "nice" tattoos, they won't reflect who those people are - only what the artist felt like doing.

He's a very good artist so people knew they'd get a good tattoo. Some people aren't as attached to the purity of their skin as others are. They're happy to take a risk and don't mind what they have.

Here are some of the tattoos that were done.

It looks like he has a particular style- so although they didn't know the exact tattoo they would have known it was a style they liked from a recognised artist
It wouldn't be for me but I can see why it would appeal

Ah, I see. I don't much like them - but then I wouldn't ever do this.

Well it seems as though he's a skilled tattoo artist so at least they know it will be of artistic value and not just a picture of a cock and hairy balls or similar.

Plus you know the way some people love to drone on about the story and meaning behind their tattoos? Well just imagine the amount of people who will be have to listen to the exciting story about how they came by theses tattoos.

I think it's quite a cool idea. I'm too indecisive to get a tattoo. There's such a limitless choice of designs to choose from, I don't think I could settle on one thing. So I actually quite like the idea of having that choice taken away from you. But obviously you'd have to be familiar with the tattooist and his work.

I thought it sounded a good idea until I saw the pics. The cliche of skulls compounded by the cliche of the rose with thorns. They're technically excellent though.

I think it's fine. Yes tattoos are permanent and for lost people should be properly thought out but there are some people who aren't precious about their skin (which I see nothing wrong with btw) and are happy to have someone else put something on there. Especially if it's a professional with a great reputation.

He just needed to do a dolphin to complete the tattoo cliche set.

Grin I speak as a person with tattoos, there is nothing more yawnsome than someone else explaining the reason behind their tattoos.
