AIBU?

That my period has come back at 8 weeks despite EBF

I'm annoyed, this was supposed to be a benefit of breastfeeding. I'm ebf every four hours including at night and had my first period at 8 weeks postpartum and how have another 2 weeks later. GP says it's not an infection or retained products and that some women just have bad luck!!! I was looking forward to no periods for months not one very two flipping weeks! Weve got through craked nipples, masters and a tounge tie and I thought things were on the up and to top it off I am supposed to be going to a spa tomorrow for a treat (and have painstaking expressed three bottles for my husband to give while I'm there) and now I need to go buy tampax, why me! (Sorry to go on needed a good rant, realise that there are much bigger problems out there)

Are you feeding an 8 week old on demand every 4 hours. I think you are pretty much winning on that score if so. DS fed about 20 times per day at that stage. No period for 17 months but I think you probably win hands down 😂

I was ebf every two hours including at night, and my period came back at 6 weeks post partum as well. Boo hiss. But ds1 wouldn't take a bottle until I stopped bf, so no spa days for me. Grin Have a lovely day!

Bad times :( It really is different for everyone. I didn't breast feed and I got my first period after 3 months!

Both times mine came back exactly 28 days after giving birth despite ebf on demand. Crap isn't it!

Mine came back at 10weeks. Bottle feeding though. The horror, absolute hell.
I actually imagine mother nature as the woman from the tampax pearl advert now! Hormones maybe, but I'm fantasising about how I'll pay her back for this gross injustice she's inflicted on me

You get four hours between feeds?! Christ, I thought three was a huge treat at that stage. I reckon I earned my 14 months and counting.

I agree with Steve. If every four hours is all your baby is demanding you're very lucky! I was feeding DD 20 times a day until she was a few months old and my period still came back at 4 months (after 6 weeks of lochia). Booooo.

Yup, mine came back within 3 months every time, despite EBF each one. It made me feel really quite cross!

Every 4 hours isn't really very much at 8 weeks, I suspect that's probably why. My baby was feeding every 2 hours at the most at that age - he's only just managing every 4 hours during the day now he's 6 months and on formula for the most part.

Mine came back at 16 weeks which I thought was a rough deal. But mine was feeding every two hours at that point so as another poster said, you are really lucky on that score!

Good news about your feeding!

Period, not so much! This happened to me with DD. Getting dressed is annoying isn't it.... You're literally stuffing pads in everywhere Confused

Yes me too. Ebf every two hours and period back after 6 weeks.

As others have said, 4 hours is a big gap between feeds for an 8 week old. At that age, mine were feeding every 2 hours or so, 3 if I was lucky. My periods returned at 5 months (DD) and 8 months (DS) when feeding became less frequent - IIRC, this was about 4 hours between feeds so yep, that's why.

Mine returned at 10 weeks despite ebf frequently. Again, bad luck. I cried when I realised my period had returned.

I'm almost 3 weeks post partum again and wondering when it'll return this time! Hmm

Period back after 6 weeks despite BF!!!

My whaddayacallit, bleeding after the birth, lasted 6 weeks (and I had a c-section). If I'd got a period straight after, or even 2 weeks after like the OP I'd have felt VERY short-changed by mother nature.

Yup. Mine was back at 4 weeks post birth. Bloody annoying.

Ebf for a year. I did have a huge baby who fed every 2 hours buy slept through the night by 8/ 9 weeks. Period stayed away for 9 months i didn't realise it would be so long but it was nice.

I went straight from the post birth bleeding into a normal period. No respite although breastfeeding exclusively. This happened with all four pregnancies. I too was gutted, still am 21 years later! I just wanted a break!😬

How long Will u b at spa for? Just remember that your boobs will produce milk even when baby is not feeding. I went away for 14 hrs when son was 7m old and I had to go up to our room half way through dinner to express milk into the dink as I was in ago y. At 8 weeks with all 3 of my breasted babies I would not have managed more than 2-3 hrs away before my boobs ready to explode!!! Just a word of warning!

I hadn't realised it was so different for everyone. DD was a small baby and needed feeding at least 8 times a day. My periods returned 3 days after I stopped breastfeeding her at 6 months.

Isn't it bonkers how different it is OP? Sounds like you've had a hell of a ride to get to this point!

DS2 was born in March and I've not had a sniff of mine, but my two friends with summer babies are back in their cycles already. No rhyme or reason.

Yep DD there was a matter of hours between post birth bleeding and my period. I thought the bleeding had come back really strongly and asked the doctor about it at my six week check. Felt a bit silly. DS was more of a milk monster and an easier birth so I had about 6 weeks between bleeding and period. In my case I think I have low progesterone as I have a lot of the other symptoms too. If I ever get pregnant again I'd ask to be tested.

I think you are so very lucky your baby can go 4 hours between feeds, I'd have given my right arm for that at 8 months let alone 8 weeks.
The period thing is crap though.

Dd2 is 9 months and still no period here BUT it's shit, I feel all dried up, have zero sex drive my hair and nails are brittle and I just want to be 'back to normal' hormonally speaking, even if it means bleeding like a stuck pig one week out of every four.
