AIBU?

To wish they would stop putting sweeteners in fizzy drinks!

Ok, so it's not a big deal. But sometimes I really fancy a fizzy drink. But they all seem to have sweeteners in.

I understand everyone needs choices. There should be a sugar option and a sweetener option IMO which is what it used to be. But it seems all the normal sugar options have sweeteners in too.

I react really badly to chemical sweeteners. Severe migraines and vomiting. Even if I didn't though I don't like the taste.

I miss Lilt. Fanta. Tango. Cream Soda. Shandy.

At the cinema the choice was diet pepsi, pepsi max, diet tango and sprite zero. Not one sugar choice.

I get the demand for sweeteners but leave the sugar versions alone!!!

YADDDDNBU!!!!

Tonic water, even the non diet ones mostly have sweeteners in them now (thankfully waitrose own brand doesn't).

I don't suffer headaches etc., but I can TASTE them. I only realised lilt changed after taking a sip. Not a fan of this trend at alll

Sounds like you need to complain to the cinema

And unfortunately i think it's only going to get worse ...you can't buy normal Robinsons squash anymore - just the sugar free ones

I know what you mean as I was trying to buy some cordial the other day and it was almost impossible. And yoghurt. It's all low fat now.

Artificial sweeteners are cheaper than sugar.

Def not BU.

Appletise, posh old-fashioned cloudy lemonade, Belvoir presses, sprite; no artificial sweeteners.

Yes to tasting them.

what happened to lime and lemon flavoured Perrier? I used to love that - fruit flavour but no sweetener or sugar

Agree, YANBU. Hate the blasted stuff.

If it helps, the Rocks brand of squashes and cordials are sweetener free, so mixed with some fizzy water would make something close. I love their blackcurrant with sparkly water.

Had this very same conversation today with someone. God knows what sweetners do to our kidneys & stomachs. Give me good old sugar any day.
Loathe the taste of aspartame which is in bloody everything. I don't drink many fizzy drinks but the ones I do, I have to check now.

ClementineWardrobe · 09/10/2016 22:23

And I can taste all bloody sweetener a mile off. Yuck.

Yay!! I'm not alone Smile

We spent ages in the drinks section the other day, and couldn't find anything without the stuff in. I kept eyeing up all my favourite drinks, and going 'arrggghh' and putting them down. There were some funny looks in my direction.

With the sugar tax, I guess it will get worse?! Sweeteners are just a hell of a lot cheaper and better for the drinks industry.

Some McDonald's have been dicking around with the Coke. You think you're ordering a real, original Coke, and end up with some hideous concoction contaminated with bloody sweetners. If I want a Coke, I'm quite happy to accept that I'm drinking 25 grams of sugar. If I wanted the sodding sweeteners, I'd have ordered the diet stuff. If I don't want 25 grams of sugar, I'll ask for a bottle of water.

It's a right nuisance. Capri Sun is one of the few ready made drinks that still contains sugar. (I find Ribena too syrupy). Vimto is out. Any lemonade is out. Fortunately I only get a thumping headache and hours of sickly taste after aspartame.

And how hard is it to buy a yoghurt????

I don't drink fizzy drinks but I agree that sweeteners seem to have crept into all the soft drinks these days and they taste vile. What's with these 'flavoured waters' aka water with artificial flavouring and aspartame / saccharin added? Why not just plain water? Or at least call it what it is, an artificially sweetened soft drink.

You need to buy Sainsbury's own brand. Their lemonade is the only thing to mix with Pimm's.

I agree. It is so bloody annoying that the non diet version container sweeteners. It means there is no alternative for those of us that want to or need to avoid sweeteners. They all taste really bitter to me - the more so the less I have. I taste it straight away. And now spend ages reading the sides of cans on the rare occasions I fancy a fizzy drink. Coke seems to be one of the few that hasn't succumbed. Yet.

Agree aspartame tastes disgusting - and diet drinks are migraine in a can. Did they think people wouldn't notice? Even R Whites don't give you choice. Try own brand stuff -Wairose own lemonade seems to be all sugar. All other sweeteners are vile.

I'm with you too, this make my blood boil! I would much rather give my children sugar than some artificial shite. Why can't we be allowed to make our own decisions about what we consume? It almost makes me want to give them special brew and a pack of fags in defiance.

I agree there should be a choice. I prefer the sweetener versions as I'm diabetic and they don't affect my blood sugars, but I can understand why other people prefer sugar. M&S seem to have an aversion to stocking sugar free drinks in their cafe and their sparkling drinks contain a SHIT-TON of sugar.

Yes, I hate sweeteners too. I can always taste it, hate the taste, abd is one of my migraine triggers.

Full fat coke and sprite are still ok?

Fevertree tonic and waitrose own tonic/lemonade still made with sugar. San Pellegrino too. Only posh brands now do sweetener-free drinks!

Lidl still do squashes that are a mix of pure fruit juice and sugar (the blackcurrant one is better than Ribena!), but are selling more and more sugarfree ones.

"No added sugar'" = chocful of artificial sweeteners, so no thanks.

I amsure in 20 years time they will disover aspartame ismore harmful than sugar. The same way they found out "healthy" margarine full of hydrogynated vegetable fat is less healthy than... butter

It's anti-sugar-bandwagon-wankerism!

Even bloody ice cream cones are all sweetened with saccharine, unless you get the waffle type.

I used to love Nestea but that has been ruined now.If they want to reduce sugar just put less in like the low sugar Belvoir which is lovely.
