To get a tattoo that's very visible as a teacher?

I've been teaching for over a decade. I have several tattoos and only one is visible and it's on my foot.

I'm debating a tattoo of a lotus flower on my lower arm.

As a parent how would you feel if your child's teacher was tattooed? If you employ teachers how would you feel?

As a parent I wouldn't care a jot if the teacher had a tattoo as long as it wasn't offensive. In fact my DSs best teacher so far had loads!

It wouldn't bother me in the slightest. I'd be more bothered that my dcs were happy and learning in your care. Does your school have any guidelines, or do any other members of staff have tattoos?

I'd think it showed you lacked judgement.
However, even then, I'd know it wouldn't actually affect your teaching, so I wouldn't say anything and I wouldn't pre-judge your teaching or care of my dc, I'd just be hoiking my judgy pants inwardly.

As a fellow teacher, I think keep it hidden, so put it somewhere you don't have to show it. You will limit your chances of certain jobs/promotions because of the ink. I know it shouldn't matter, but it does.

A new person joined my school some months back: she wears really tight clothes, has an obvious tat, wears a nose stud when the dress code is 'business wear' ie suits, jackets for women. Compared to others, she stands out and gives, IMO, a poor impression and example to the kids when the uniform rules are very strict.

I have not been impressed when someone applied for a job in my department with multiple piercings (not ears), tats and dressed like she was going to spend the day at the beach. She wasn't employed, not just because of the piercings and tats on show, she interviewed very poorly and didn't have that 'zing' I look for, but on first view, I was not happy. She clearly hadn't looked at the website and the pictures of the older students who also have to dress in 'business wear'.

You may find it restricts the schools you can work in if you choose to move on from our current school. My school wouldn't have any problems with it, but in my previous school you would definitely have had to cover it up (but you probably wouldn't have wanted to work there anyway, it was a shithole)

You're right I could always wear a 3/4 length sleeve, it would just be blimmin' hot in the summer! Not that I wear sleeveless tops to work. I've been aching in this school for 6 years & they would have no issue but I am aware that one day I will likely want to move.

I am very clean when I go to work- just sometimes covered in paint/glue/children's snot at the end of the day.

Can I ask if you've ever had a child at school with huge problems related to either SEN, bullying, emotional problems or falling badly behind in their school work for example?

If a fantastic teacher came along and made a massive difference to your child, would you give a shit then about an ink drawing on their arm?

I wouldn't be impressed as a parent.

Not sure the school you are working at already could do anything about it, but it might restrict your career advancement. Or getting a new job if it is visible.

Where do you see your career going? You will get parents who just don't like tattoos (I don't) but Most will accept that it has no bearing on you do your job.

However my concern would be if you wanted head there may be people who don't support you or consider you (perhaps subconsciously) but I think they would be in the minority these days.
