Not to want my daughter's initials to be 'S.H.A.G'

I'm not a troll, I promise. I just signed up today as I need some help. My husband is completely settled on the name Sophie for our baby. Our 2 middle names, Harriet and Anya are our parents middle names which we have to use as it's family tradition. However in the order that we thought of, it would spell SHA and our surname begins with a GSad Would our daughter be teased or would it be ok?

It would be terrible. Sorry. Just change the middle names around.

She will be teased. Why not Sophie Anya Harriet?

I want to change it to Sophie Anya Harriet but my husband says it will be fine and nobody will care. Should I put my foot down?

Nobody ever notices initials that includes middle names
Can you not swap the 2 middle names around
Or not have any, or choose different ones
Its your baby, you don't have to follow tradition

Yes- put you foot down

Yes, put your foot down! Getting through school is hard enough without your name being SHAG!

SmallBee · 08/10/2016 09:00

In the school I went to people would have noticed and she'd be bullied a lot.
Change the middle names round.

I don't see the problem with swapping the middle initials. A simple solution.

You definitely change the order. My DSs go to a school where their computer logins, email, report cards etc all have all initials and then surname so "ABCAtticus" DS's initials spell a word (although he isn't displeased about that because with his it looks quite cool) but it would be rubbish for her if everything had "SHAGreen" written on it.

Definitely not OK. Just swap them around. People notice these things and will laugh about it her whole life.

Yes it'll be noticed by other kids at school, definitely put your foot down and change the middle names around!!

Of course you must put your foot down.

No reponsible dad would surely want his baby daughter's initials to spell out a word for sexual intercourse.

Don't do it! It will be noticed. At my current work place and a previous one initials are used on all internal memos. She would be SHAG for ever more!

People do notice middle initials. We deliberately chose our DS middle names so that the initials spelt another name.
Wasn't SHAG though.

Your DH is being a bit of a nitwit, swap the names!

I think Sophie Anya Harriet...flows better anyway. Put your foot down.

Your husband is wrong. It will be noticed at sometime in her life, and she will feel embarrassed about it, at the very least. Just swap the order of the middle names around, or if that is set in stone, you will have to choose a different first name.

Yes change the order!

Insancerre my friend Jammy (James Alexander Mxxx) would disagree. Luckily he's ok with it.

Actually that's true about memos. If she becomes a lawyer all of her dictation will start "SHAG attending Mrs X in relation to her divorce from ..."

Don't do it.

My initials spell out HMRC but even I didnt notice till I was 24 I imagine SHAG is a different matter though, just swap them or give her your maiden name?

Lawyers tend to be known by their initials. This would be mortifying.

Put your food down and swap the names around! Kids will notice anything.

When I was pregnant, the girls name we thought of was Olivia Clovine / Celeste ( my mum's names). Then we realised that with my partner's surname, her initials would be O.C.D, so we scrapped that idea :D

You have to swap them.

ClashCityRocker · 08/10/2016 09:08

Yup, another one who uses initials a lot at work. In fact our email addresses are initials. Which I think is stupid, but there you go.

I just think it's such an easy thing to resolve that it's a bit mean to cause extra problems for the kid when they could be so simply switched.

I'd put my foot down. DS 2 has the initials A.R.P.G which his ex army dad finds hilarious (rocket propelled grenade) and if I'd realised that sooner I'd have swapped the names over.
