IHeartHoumous Tue 04-Oct-16 16:17:21 be so done with people’s ‘cryptic’ social media statuses along the lines of:

“Someone made a serious mistake today! Fuming!”
“Just so fed up with it all”
“Hates liars”
“Let down again!”

Cue the nosey taskforce – probably just what the status owner wants – commenting asking what’s up, followed by “I’ll inbox you”! We all get fed up, let down etc but isn’t that what a phone is for? To call/text friends or family to vent, not be all ‘mysterious’ over social media?

Any social anthropologists out there that can shed any light on why people do this? A feeling of being lonely/needing attention maybe, even though they often have hundreds of social media ‘friends’?

It's attention seeking - plain and simple. I've unfollowed loads of folk for this.

Alabastard Tue 04-Oct-16 16:18:46

"inbox me hun"

phillipp Tue 04-Oct-16 16:19:50

It's attention seeking. I just ignore them. If it happens a lot, I unfollow them.

m0therofdragons Tue 04-Oct-16 16:21:28

You have to say "Hun"

missyB1 Tue 04-Oct-16 16:21:46

Drama queens. I can't be doing with them!

Nabootique Tue 04-Oct-16 16:22:00

Ugh. It's even worse when they say "nothing. Forget about it" instead of "I'll PM you". It's a load of attention seeking bollocks. I very (and I mean VERY) occasionally vent on FB, but I do at least put exactly why I have had a bad day!

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser Tue 04-Oct-16 16:22:17

Urgh I hate this kind of status. They normally seem to be coupled with the posting of vague memes about not letting people treat you badly, knowing your worth etc. etc.

cathf Tue 04-Oct-16 16:22:19

In the same category are the posts along the lines of: "OMG, I am the worst mummy in the world because I forgot to read with my son last night. Sitting here sobbing" To be met with loads of posts confirming that she is indeed the BEST mummy in the world etc etc.

See also: "Thank you Tesco for ruining my child's birthday by not delivering some trivial party item"

It's all dramatic attention seeking.

Vague Booking. It's incredibly irritating.

I ran into someone I almost never see who is a friend on FB. I asked how she was with a concerned face on. She looked totally confused. I said, "you know, what you were saying on FB..." and she said, "oh, FB is just the mountain I scream from. I forgot anyone was reading". I've since stopped caring about emotional outpourings from FB friends. It's just attention seeking and not useful.

Nabootique Tue 04-Oct-16 16:26:22

Ooh, you'll love THIS one Spuriouser. I'm sure you'll feel as strong and empowered as I do right now.

IHeartHoumous Tue 04-Oct-16 16:26:58

I de-friend/unfollow some too...but some are too comical to get rid of! A friend’s work colleague checked into hospital once (obviously a time people would want to check everything’s OK with you, but the way I see it if you’re well enough to remember to check yourself in on Facebook you’re probably not on death’s door). He gave frequent updates on how they were running more and more tests, in the end he was “discharged with a USP” – cue his Facebook friends asking what that was an “Unidentified Stomach Pain” hmm

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser Tue 04-Oct-16 16:30:17

Naboo THAT! That is exactly what I mean. They are so annoying! A very wise person once said that it is never your successful friends posting the inspirational memes on Facebook.

DudeWheresMyVulva Tue 04-Oct-16 16:30:29

I actually quite like these statuses as it gives me a quickfire insight into the people I can't be bothered with.

(I have a family member in her 60s and today she posted something like; 'No matter how many times a certain person tries to push me down I know it'sa reflection on them and not me' Um- I happen to know that story, and I know it is about someone queue-jumping at the Co-op. )

Ninasimoneinthemorning Tue 04-Oct-16 16:32:42

Oh I hate hospital check ins! I'm not fussed about the kids ones that are reoccurring. But absolutly - 'sat in A&E in so much pain ...'

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser Tue 04-Oct-16 16:36:14

Someone on my Facebook once posted a selfie of herself in a neck brace stretcher thingy after a car accident. I thought that was a new low..

Discobabe Tue 04-Oct-16 16:39:31

Yanbu. I ignore ignore ignore. If you want some support be genuine, don't post cryptic crap

IHeartHoumous Tue 04-Oct-16 16:43:28

Then there's the can’t beat a bit of actual to and fro arguments though, one of my faves being when a 3rd, 4th, 5th, whatever, person comes in saying “I’m not getting involved but....” angry

Nabootique Tue 04-Oct-16 16:43:39

I'll tell you what else I hate on FB <warming to the theme>, those aggressive parent ones. The sort of ones where the mum is saying "if you ever hurt my son I'll kill you. He deserves to be treated like a king, etc.", and equivalent ones for dads saying if a bloke even looks at his daughter they should expect a kicking. You know, that sort.

IHeartHoumous Tue 04-Oct-16 16:45:43

Definitely know what you mean Nabootique, cringe worthy posts like “I have a beautiful daughter...and a shovel, an axe and an alibi” etc – Christ, get a life!

HopperBusTicket Tue 04-Oct-16 16:48:04

I have a policy of completely ignoring attention seeking posts that you have to ask what it's about. If they can't say what the problem is in the initial post I'm not interested.

Nabootique Tue 04-Oct-16 16:48:14

Yes! Ugh. Bet she can't wait to get away from you, you controlling arse.

inboxmehun Tue 04-Oct-16 16:48:54

I've been popped on and pulled on. These are the things you have to endure when you're a parent. Every day I post something on fb in this vein! Be rude not to!!

inboxmehun Tue 04-Oct-16 16:49:34

Sorry should read I've been pooped on and puked on..

Dizzybintess Tue 04-Oct-16 16:50:56

I bloody hate vaguebookers
Who post vague posts like.

Feeling sad
And when someone says RUOK Hun they reply I will PM you!
Why fucking air your feelings on FB If you are not willing to divulge what's pissing you off!

What gets me even more is the inspirational or aggressive meme type quote picture. I have loads of friends who are big fans of those and they really piss me off !!!
This is a prime example
