To go away for a week

Been invited on an amazing opportunity with work export team to work abroad for a week. Could lead to bigger things.

Close friend says they will have the kids for me, they are close to kids and have had them overnight before.

Downside - Little one is only 2 and clingy, lots of life changes at the moment (split from DH) Close family members already saying how utterly unreasonable I am to consider it.

Over to you mumsnet jury!

Go.

It will be good for you and might even be good for 2 year old to gain a little more independence.

Do it.

Skype/FaceTime the kids if you can, bring them something fun back, and set up a week of fun things at your friend's place (little fun cheap gifts to open in the morning etc.)

I can see why you want to go, potential opportunities and prospects. I probably wouldnt though, but that's more my issues I hate leaving my DC and would worry the whole time. Would you be able to return home easily if it wasn't going well with your DC?

It will be hard but as long as you know your little one will be ok you should go. They're right it might be good for all of you. You can FaceTime etc

It's an investment for their future if is holds prospects for you so def go!! It's not like you are going swinging in Ibiza! Blush

This time it would be just a short hop home (EU), future chances would be further away but I can consider them case by case.

Close friend would stay at mine so kids would have home base.

Do it,it's only a week, before and after you go shower the little one with affection so they feel secure but other than that don't worry a thing about it!

Do it. It sounds like a great opportunity.

Also, if you are splitting from H then you need to focus on your career and your ability to support the kids. Plus they will be away from you spending time with him some of the time, so this might be a good way to get that started.

Thank you!

Though it has been raised I will be setting myself up badly for custody hearings. Considering I have had 247 custody so far I just can't see it plus he really doesn't want the child job.

Go! Its one week - so 5 days really, leaving Sunday, back Friday night, and huge numbers of parents (fathers mainly) do this very routinely.
I've travelled for work for 16 years and though people do judge (I was asked just this week what I'd done with ds while I was in Germany), it doesn't bother ds in the least
