Having a newborn baby's ears pierced.

I know that millions of people do it.
But the baby has no choice. I would so like to know the explanations for the decision to put a hole through your baby's perfectly formed ears.
Why would you do that?
(I had a friend who did that, and I had to ring an ambulance because the 2 month old baby got a blood infection). Mum didn't want to call an ambulance because she was afraid of being told off for doing this to her child. She was bathing her 2 month old baby's ear in olive oil, and hoping for the best. Please let your child grow up, and then decide if they want a piercing. Babes in arms do not have a choice.

ghostyslovesheep Tue 27-Sep-16 21:42:31

oh but they look so cute and it helps tell if the baldy ones are girls or not

Champagneformyrealfriends Tue 27-Sep-16 21:42:59

Oh god this is a can of worms.

I despise seeing babies with pierced ears but you'll inevitably get people on this thread saying that it's fine/culturally acceptable etc. I hope you've got your flame proof suit on blush

What is your AIBU?

Or are you just preaching?

Oysterbabe Tue 27-Sep-16 21:43:21

This has been done once or twice. Usually goes well.

you can store spare dummies on the hoops as well - win win!

Waffles80 Tue 27-Sep-16 21:45:35

Zzzzzzzzzz.

There are far more outrageous things visited upon newborns than pierced ears.

If people spent a fraction of the time worrying about child poverty (reaching almost Victorian levels in Tory Britain), and neglect as they did getting into a lather about shit like this, then maybe proper action might be taken.

PunkrockerGirl Tue 27-Sep-16 21:45:41

I hope she was completely bald and had a beautiful headband with a bow on too. Perfect.

Sparklesilverglitter Tue 27-Sep-16 21:46:37

What is your AIBU? Are you asking if your unreasonable to do it? Or just looking for a bun fight?

You don't like it fine don't do it then. What other people do to there children is up to them

Champagneformyrealfriends Tue 27-Sep-16 21:47:11

Punkrocker and a dummy clip with her name on in diamanté

chicknquack Tue 27-Sep-16 21:47:14

Not commenting on the rest, but a two month old is not a newborn.

jesterkat Tue 27-Sep-16 21:47:37

FULL HOUSE! You cant beat a game of mumsnet bingo!

DeadGood Tue 27-Sep-16 21:47:37

I'll bite! for the benefit of spectators grin

DH is from a culture where baby ear piercing is the norm. And the way they explain it away is "it doesn't hurt at that age".

I completely disagree - it hurts, they just don't remember it. There's a difference. But that is what a lot of people seem to believe.

So, there's that.

It's a bit tedious when people say "loads of threads have been done about this OP" etc do people really expect the OP to have read every MN thread?! confused

I'm amazed it's not illegal actually, totally unnecessary, and why ears, why is no where else acceptable?!

katemess12 Tue 27-Sep-16 21:48:59

Can't work myself up enough to give a shit what other people do with their child's ears.

Soubriquet Tue 27-Sep-16 21:49:21

They are only ok if they are solid gold hoops

Anything else is just tacky

Purplebluebird Tue 27-Sep-16 21:49:35

Lol! Why this, again!

Yarboosucks Tue 27-Sep-16 21:49:58

Could you legally pierce a baby's nose?

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig Tue 27-Sep-16 21:50:01
