AIBU?

Aibu to think I can refuse to watch a tv show

Dh's plan for tonight.
Watch episode of tv show 1 (his choice) then tv show 2 (his choice but one I like) then a dvd (undecided).
Rare evening home for dh. He's generally home at 11pm tonight he got in at 6.
I hate tv show 1. Can't stand it. Fucking hate it in fact I tried watching it for a whole season. Couldn't get my head around it. Didn't enjoy a minute of it and couldn't keep up. I ask dh if we can skip tv show 1. He whines, moans and has a bit of a sulk. I say OK then watch it alone I'll just go on mumsnet. Dh calms down, so we search for tv show 2 on Netflix, new season isn't up yet so we try to find it online, can't find a version that will run so I try to skip to a film. I leave him skipping through Netflix and go for a quick wee (damn you pregnancy) come back and find he's put something on, fair enough. I ask what it is, he just says oh you'll see. It doesn't become apparent so I ask again and he says it's called x, do I want to watch it? I said I dunno I haven't heard of it, but it's a bit late now it's on now. To which he turns off the play station and sulks off, claiming I've ruined his night as I won't watch ANYTHING he wants, only thing I said no to was tv show 1, aibu to think I shouldn't be forced to watch shit?
Semi lighthearted

BTW, I'm sure he's in a mood as he's still sore over tv show 1.
He's said 3 times since his flounce that I should just try to watch it and compromise. I don't want to compromise. It's shit. I tried.
Fuck off.

I'm rubbish at watching TV. DH watches what he wants, I play on my phone/work on laptop/snooze. I'm a source of frustration to him - he loves TV and watches it intensely, no chatting! Not something anyone should huff about, it's not like you're refusing to spend time with him.

I'm on here because DH is watching total rubbish that I hate. My compromise is that we're in the same room but STOP giving me a running commentary on a programme I hate

Yanbu, but I find it irrationally irritating when DH doesn't like a show I enjoy so I can kind of see where he's coming from. We really need to know what show 1 is to say for sure whether Yabu...

Watch the show with him... But spend the while episode asking "So who's that again? Ooh, why are they doing that? So he's X then (when you know full well he's Y)?" He'll never ask again.

But as an aside, why was it "too late" if the film he picked wasn't one you liked? It's Netflix, just turn it off and pick another. ( I wouldn't be impressed with him flouncing off though - flouncing is for stroppy teenagers not grown people )

Does he not get to watch telly often then? If not I'd just let him watch it and play on my phone.

My DH does watch some total shite, but he's pretty good about ignoring my open mockery of his dire viewing habits Grin

I totally want to know what shite your DH was watching/planning to watch. Can't be worse than the cack mine watches.

Switch the bloody thing back on, find something you want to watch. If he wants to compromise and watch it with you I am sure you will be happy to have him keep you company.

I'd have just let him watch TV show 1 and mucked around on my phone or pluttered with something else whilst it was on. I wouldn't have bothered saying I was going to, I'd just have done it.

He's sulking and being childish though and YANBU in not wanting to watch something you really dislike.

YADNBU not to want to watch Gotham. It is shite.

I have absolutely no idea why he just didn't pick another I asked him and he stropped because I wouldn't watch Gotham. Makes no sense to me. He's asleep on the sofa and I'm seeking refuge on MN

Well if he works in the evenings and this is - as you say - a rare chance to watch tele, then it strikes me it's not unreasonable for him to be able to choose what goes on the tele tonight.
You don't have to watch it of course, but presumably every other night you get full control of the remote, so not sure why you begrudge him his choice for one night.
So yes, YABU, although that still doesn't mean you need to watch something you don't want to.

Well I'd tell him what I told my son when he tantrumed for more Peppa Pig - if it makes you behave like this then you're not allowed to watch it until you're more grown up. My sons 2 but I think it's applicable here. Grin

Yeah, Gotham's crap. Even my DH refuses to watch that. He is a mega Batman purist though, so it's mainly due to it being 'made up' (all other Batman-based films/TV being carefully researched documentaries, of course Hmm)

My comment RE it being a bit late was my attitude of well it's on now may as well watch it, but if he took that as me not wanting to we could've found something else easily

He watches plenty of tv.
On his own.
On his laptop, or on TV in a hotel room. And in the day, he just regulary works 5-11pm right now.

So he's hardly ever in before 11 but you're griping about what to watch when presumably you can watch whatever you like the rest of the time?

Grow up.

DH and I often dislike whatever the other one wants to watch. We just watch them alone. Or the other watches something on the tablet so at least we're in the same room! There are hardly any programmes we watch together. I can't think of a single one that's around at the moment! It's not really a big deal.
YANBU but he definitely is for flouncing off.
