To give up on the 'soaps'

Seriously I am watching EE, Emmerdale and Coronation Street. The latter I still quite like but they are all pretty boring with the same predictable storylines. Thing is I've been watching them so long it's like a habit! Has anyone stopped watching and not missed them?

I stopped watching all but EE - now I don't compare it with the others with similar story lines and enjoy it more

Yes! I moved overseas and stopped watching them and my life is immeasurably better for not wasting 90 minutes every day on other peoples miserable lives. Do it!

Do it! I stopped 3 years ago, the theme tune to EE now gives me chills! You really won't miss them.

We watch Corrie and I hate it.
Its so ridiculous, things happen with no rhyme or reason, things get forgotten and never mentioned again and some of the 'actors' are absolutely fucking awful.

But GF insists we watch, I try not to but without sitting upstairs I have little choice.

I stopped watching them years ago - it's very freeing. On the odd occasion I am forced to watch them when my mother visits I see the same old stories. Gave me back 90 mins of my life. Can't recommend it enough.

Ive not been watching for the last four years and I feel better for it.I was brought up watching Coronation Street, as a child was sent to bed when it ended. I remember the story lines being the talk of the street. Now it's dire, ridiculous storylines, action movie scences, too serious, empty characters, too far removed from life in a Northern town. The only thing I like is the theme tune and I rarely hear it now.

I watch Corrie but don't bother with the others. I have never watched Emmerdale and gave up on EE about 3 years ago. I got sick of the stupid turf wars between the Mitchells and whichever gangster was about.

I don't fret if I miss Corrie but I like the comedy element.

Why do you need permission? If you want to stop watching, stop.

I stopped watching them all a while back except Neighbours and Home and Away - the sun makes them cheerful whatever the story lines!

Didn't miss them at all - now when I do watch I just think they are far fetched!

Only watch EE, used to watch Corrie, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks, they all just got ridiculous, EE is the only one I cannot give up despite it's ridiculousness, so many murders and affairs in one small square Grin

i used to watch EE , Corrie and Hollyoaks religiously .

Since having DS i just don't have the time , Hollyoaks I grew out of I think , EE just horrible so stopped that , and Corrie I will watch if I have the time as the whole family will watch together anyway as we all like it.

I was feeling EE too much for my dss ( 6 ) as I feel some issues are too grown up for pre 9pm

I haven't watched any soaps for a few years now. I don't feel like I am missing anything. I couldn't be doing with all the shouty TV programmes, they just stressed me out!

I don't know anyone who watches them. Why do you need permission to stop doing something that clearly bores you? Find something you actually enjoy to do in the time you would have spent watching them!

I used to watch EE and Neighbors, and what ever was on in the middle of the day like Son's and Daughters or The Ceder Tree or whatever else. I'm sure there was something else i watched but i can't think what it was now! Wasn't Cori or Emerdale .... dunno.

Anyway, i stopped watching them all as it became obvious over the years that all the bloody story lines just went round and round in circles, there were never any actual consequences for the characters once 'their' bit of the story was over (one week they'd be kid napped and held for ransom and two weeks later they'd be back happily serving in the caf' smiling and chatting to everyone, or whatever), and life was too short to spend x amount of hours per week watching a daft programme.

I'm thinking it's probably about 12 years since i watched them!

I stopped watching them over 10 years ago, so depressing, and crap acting. I don't miss them one bit. I turn over as soon as I hear the tune from Eastenders.

I watch to see how they're dealing with the most difficult storylines. I turned on to see how EE and Hollyoaks handled the still birth storylines for example. I'm always intrigued at how the actors do and what the writing is like. Otherwise I just don't bother. Like you said the story lines are predictable.

I watch neighbours but nothing else. Corrie jumped the shark long ago. I caught a bit of EE the other week. It was just dreary.

Gave up on EE years ago as pp fed up with Mitchell's & various gangsters.
Corrie started to get really silly about a year ago, gave up when the "Tina & Peter" affair made absolutely no sense, it was a really lazy way of writing the actors out, shame because at least it had some humour & still remember the line about one of Gail's Dh "he's Norman Bates with a briefcase" 😃
