To think it's odd that DD wasn't allowed to wear a tank top for non uniform and was made to put on her PE top?

DD is 10 and they have a bloody non uniform day shock so soon already (it was a charity thing). Not that I care, by DD faffs around all night deciding what to wear.

She wore a tank top and jeans. Oh no, that wasn't allowed? We weren't given a list of things that were allowed/weren't allowed. She was told she needed at least short sleeves so had to put on her PE polo.

Isn't this really odd?

What is a tank top?

Radia Fri 23-Sep-16 22:44:08

Something like this

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup Fri 23-Sep-16 22:46:03

Oh I thought you were going to say it was cropped or something! Nope, they were being weird. Is the central heating broken? Is it a church school?

DappledThings Fri 23-Sep-16 22:47:04

That's what I think they call a tank top in the US. To me a tank top is a knitted sleeveless jumper that would be very odd to wear with nothing underneath. That is what I'd call a vest top

Radia Fri 23-Sep-16 22:47:34

Oh, I just always call it a tank top.

Yes, it's Roman Catholic actually!

NowThatsClosureJen Fri 23-Sep-16 22:47:49

I would say that top is definitely not appropriate for a 10 year old.

MaitlandGirl Fri 23-Sep-16 22:47:58

They're not allowed vest tops or scrappy tops on non-uniform days at our high school but that's for sun safety. Wouldn't have thought it was a problem this time of the year in the U.K.

Radia Fri 23-Sep-16 22:48:23

Why's it not appropriate? She wears them all the time confused

FireFLYing19 Fri 23-Sep-16 22:48:50

Is that all she wore? No cardi or jacket?

gabsdot Fri 23-Sep-16 22:48:53

I agree, too skimpy for school.

DrAddisonMontgomery Fri 23-Sep-16 22:48:57

I don't think it's appropriate for school. You should have put your foot down.

Radia Fri 23-Sep-16 22:49:49

Put my foot down? I didn't have an issue, I had no idea it would be an issue.

No, she had a jacket that she wore to school with it, but when she was there she took that off

Gileswithachainsaw Fri 23-Sep-16 22:50:08

God my dd and I live in those....

Like fuck is it inappropriate

gallicgirl Fri 23-Sep-16 22:50:40

Woohoo! Body shaming for ten year olds.

hmm . I think I'd be querying the reason for this with school.

HandmaidsTail Fri 23-Sep-16 22:50:47

In what way is it inappropriate? Because she has bare arms and shoulders?

RitchyBestingFace Fri 23-Sep-16 22:52:04

Don't know where you are but it was about 24 degrees in the SE so perfectly appropriate for a summer's day. They are being weird. Not much you can do about it though.

RebelRogue Fri 23-Sep-16 22:55:07

Gabs skimpy!?!? She's 10!! All they can see is shock horror arms and shoulders!!

GiddyOnZackHunt Fri 23-Sep-16 22:55:38

Is her PE top logo'd?
I think it may have been Jeans for Genes today and I'm the past when our school did it, they had to wear uniform top with jeans on their legs.

RiverTam Fri 23-Sep-16 22:56:52

DD is at a non-uniform primary and about the only rule they have is no sleeveless tops. Having said that, I doubt they'd actually say anything.

Radia Fri 23-Sep-16 22:57:29

Ah, that was it! But no, they can wear what they want as long as a £1 is brought in

Bedsheets4knickers Fri 23-Sep-16 22:59:37

That's a vest top , a tank top is thicker and has an inch more shoulder.. Not too much difference really x

midcenturymodern Fri 23-Sep-16 22:59:52

I have a 10 yo. She has worn stuff like that for none uniform and it would't have occurred to me to put my foot down either. Also a RC school.

Bedsheets4knickers Fri 23-Sep-16 23:02:03

My 3 year old lived in these all summer

Ptarmigandancinginthegloaming Fri 23-Sep-16 23:03:32

I guess they felt it was too little clothing, but they should really write down what their rules are if that's the case. My DCs school has a rule of 'no beach wear' which sort of covers this space.
