AIBU?

to want to ban hot drinks in takeaway canteens/cafes etc

standing in the queue, waiting for a nice easy 30 second transaction to pay for a nice easy bottle of water or can of diet coke - and it takes absolutely ages because every fucker in front of you is ordering their tall skinny half fat decaf extra double shot latte with soya milk and hazelnut foam or whatever the fuck they want...

plus tea and coffee both taste disgusting, so why would anyone want to queue for ages for them anyway?

argh!

They should have a separate till for us. Yanbu. We may be a lone here.

Personally I think it's the cold drinks which seem to take an age to prepare.

If you want a "quick" drink then Starbucks/Costa are probably not the best place to go.

I'm quite prepared to wait for the drinks. What pisses me off is when the Barishier (Or Cashista ?) whips the food out of your hand and whacks it in the machine before you've even given your drinks order. Combine that with the queue for the cooler drinks and you find the food is 5 minutes ahead of the drinks.

It irks me when I have to queue with all the filthy lottery gamblers when I want my cigarettes!

Don't mind it so much in a coffee shop. My own stupid fault for choosing the nearest place for a cold drink. But when you discover that your go-to bakery has diversified into a takeaway coffee fucking bar and you can no longer be in and out inside a minute

'Don't mind it so much in a coffee shop' Grin

For many people, the hot drinks are the main point of such places, you know.

A 'no prep' till would presumably solve your problem?

I have got into fruit teas in recent years, but as someone who tends to just pick up a bottle of cold stuff, it is frustrating that the assumption is that people want to order hot drinks and therefore they are next to the till meaning that you have to wait for stupid noisy frothy coffee machines, particularly if the set up otherwise allows you to avoid cold counters and hot food to get what you want directly. The positioning by the till means it feels much more like queue jumping to bypass.

I rarely go to proper coffee shops because they're so noisy!

I suspect that you may be unreasonable OP, but I'll take the hit with you Grin

a nice easy bottle of water or can of diet coke

Buy those at the corner shop/newsagent/supermarket. Cheaper too.

Or you could just go to one of the many, many shops that sell bottles of water and diet coke that don't sell hot drinks?

I love my take away coffee when out and about although I do see your point on queue length, I always have a strong black coffee which is generally ready buy time my card payment has finished but you can bet your life the 5 people in front of me want coffee with hazelnut syrup and extra hot milk and extra foam and chocolate sprinkles and then have to told 100 times that sugar is BEHIND them.

If I just wanted a Diet Coke I'd always go to a newsagent or similar I wouldn't queue in a coffee shop to buy a Coke

If all you want is a bottle of water or can of Coke, why not just go to a supermarket or newsagent or Boots? Some of those will even have a self checkout.

What annoys me is bakeries that also have sit down cafes that don't have separate ordering and paying for those customers. So if you just want some bread you're stuck behind people ordering coffee and cake for four. But I suppose it might not be efficient use of staff to have separate queues and tills.

Maybe we should ban customers bringing loads of coins for banking as well Grin

Or people who want really complex cinema tickets and who haven't read the food menu deals available and they're in a big group but are all paying individually...

And breathe...Grabs a simple white coffee. Or is that an Americano with milk. I don't care if it's hot or cold milk. Just as long as it's not skimmed. No, I haven't got a loyalty card.

i think a seperate till for cold drinks is a great idea

I think this every time I'm the designated driver in a pub or nightclub. I just want a bloody can of coke, not 6 pints, 4 cocktails and two tequilas!

More vending machines are the answer. Everything that can come out of vending machine should.

If you would really rather pay £1.50 for a bottle of water from Starbucks than walk to a newsagent and buy the same product for 60p, then you deserve to wait just to give you time to think about your actions Grin

Certainly for Empire cinemas, when you pre-book online (who doesn't ?) you are guided through a pre-order food menu before checking out.

I loves the internet. I think it will be big one day Grin

Hot drinks suck. Tea gives you bad breath and coffee tastes like bad breath.
So yanbu

Oh God the cinema! Especially Cineworld, where they sell the tickets and the food at understaffed counters so you have to spend 20 minutes in the queue because the automatic ticket machines aren't working and someone needs a 3 course meal to take into a film!
