To think running battles are nothing new

All day today the new reporters have been getting there knickers in a twist about this mass brawl between schools in Erith about 100 child fighting on the common

Now none of us with teens would want our children Invloved in this but it's really nothing new any one would went to school pre noughties will have story about the boys going to fight another school in the park Ect

I went to a girls school and we pretty much a a running riverly with the girls at a local mixed comp I believe it started over one of our lot dating someone's boyfriend and any time you saw one of the girls you pretty much had to fight or run

I just asked ds 16 he said this is not really the done thing theses days and running battles usually are folk law eg they get talked about but no ones ever attend one


This is not the end of society or a breakdown in law and order this is teenagers good this lot now never would have survived the 70s ,80s or 90s


My dad was telling me about when he was a lad they had a running battles with the grammar school kids
It's not desirable and I hope no one was hurt but kids do fight and this mas brawl after school is nothing new

YANBU, it happened a lot when I was a teen, usually the boys from our school vs 2 other local schools.

However, I don't think it should juts be accepted because 'it's always happened'. It is still mass violence and very dangerous. There is a lot of shit I did as a teen that I'd blanch at the thought of DD doing.

A ruck between local schools (not perhaps 100 kids but 40 odd) wouldn't be uncommon maybe a couple of times a year. Knives were a no no but weaponry would be involved. It didn't ever make the local free paper let alone the national news.

There was a lot of talk about it when I was at school but nothing ever actually happened.

100 children fighting is a massive deal IMO!

There was a massive brawl between my school (comp) and the local boy's grammar back in the 90s. There'd been various small skirmishes but this was an organised mass brawl. If you include everyone who went down to watch there were well over a hundred kids there. Kids brought planks of wood (no knives) It became legendary.

Looking back it was dangerous and stupid but both schools wanted to be seen as the 'hardest'.

There was a mass brawl very recently mainly involving girls starting with 2 girls who were fighting over a boy outside McDonalds. The next day both schools got involved. Caused chaos locally as they were fighting on the main road. Then every teenager within a 2 mile radius was alerted via social media so it quickly escalated from about 2 girls fighting to 20 girls fighting and all 500 of their mates from snap chat coming down to film it.

I guess the media these days have lots of blank space to fill because in the 90s these things would barely make the local paper. There'd probably be a special assembly though.
