To ask my fellow mumsnetters to find me a home?!

I know I probably am being unreasonable to ask random people on the Internet to find me a home but I am at a loss so hoping for some advice, inspiration and ideas (or for Kirsty and Phil to read this thread 😄)

So, we live in the south east, 20 mins outside of London. 2 children, 2 and 3 and twins on the way. Same sex couple. We would love somewhere with land (not a farm but an acre or 2) and to be close to somewhere vibrant / cultural. Must be an open minded non villagey feel as we grew up being the only gays in our neighbouring northern villages many years ago! We love the south east but it's way too expensive to buy what we need. Basically we would want a lovely property with some land just outside Brighton but we are not millionaires! So, anyone recommend where they live that fulfils any of these criteria? So far thinking maybe countryside near Manchester or Cheshire but really no idea! Thanks everyone in advance (goes back to wasting time on rightmove looking at properties way out of our price range and wondering if it is possible to get any more ginormous than 39 weeks pregnant with twins....)

What is your price range? Do you also need jobs? (what sort?)
I always recommend Isle of Wight , - I moved here from Brighton and its within fairly easy reach to go back for weekends .. You might be able to afford something here ..

I havent noticed it being gay unfriendly , but then I dont have direct experience..

Thanks Laska. Hadn't even thought of the Isle of Wight. I'm not sure it would be quite right for us, having lived in London all our adult lives but wil definitely look into it. I was thinking more of countryside but near big city, not London though as too expensive or that's what we would do. Jobs wise we are flexible, I'm a dr and wife is a solicitor. Budget of 800k but less would be better so we have more disposable income for hobbies etc.

What do you want the land for? We've just bought something with land (horses) and kind of regretting it now. You get a lot less house for your money with a house with land and its quite hard work looking after it all, especially if you have kids and jobs.

Near sheffield or nottingham would be cheap and nice cities.

Wow, that is gorgeous!! To put it in perspective, our tiny 2 bed with postage stamp garden is that price here.... Goes off to google Wigan and blames pregnancy brain for lack of geographical knowledge!

Good to know we could afford Cambridge too, I've heard good things. i told my wife who still thinks I am mad for wanting to move when in a week we will have 4 under 3.......!!

Yes, land is for horses (well ponies ultimately). I competed as a child and young adult and horses / ponies is motivating the countryside move. Oh and we would love some chickens, space, fresh air, growing veggies, all good life stuff.

Have you looked west of Birmingham? There are some lovely places in that part of the country and Brum, if you are not familiar with it, is really friendly, lively city. I think prices out there are pretty good too.
