AIBU?

To think too many people have Costa or Starbucks as an accessory

A rather stylish women I work with seems to have a costa cup superglued. I never see her drink from it although coffee is present inside. I just don't get why some people always seem to have a coffee cup is it a snobbery thing?

Why does it bother you? So they like Starbucks etc.

How do you know what is in it?

I can think of better accessorise I can carry rather than a coffee cup
I have quite a bit of starbucks / Costa
I like the lemon iced tea from Costa and skinny latte extra shot from starbucks ...

It's vodka. You caught her. Well done.

I expect they just like coffee
And even if they were for some reason carrying a coffee they didn't plan to drink - so what?

Confused coffee as an accessory? Maybe she just likes coffee

A Costa cup is hardly a stylish or snobby accessory. It's just a cup. Unless it's a diamond-studded one or something. Some people drink a lot of coffee.

I have a large skinny hot chocolate from Costa mist days when I'm at work and tend to carry it around as it takes awhile to cool down and drink. I just like hit chocolate and frankly I deserve it when im away from the school run/children/incessant activities. In no way is it an accessory, i see no status attached to Costa.

I think most people who have take away coffee have to carry the cup around for 7 hours because that's how long it takes for the coffee to cool down enough to drink it

They seem to heat it up to the temperature of the sun. And then fill it right to the brim so if you even take one step it scalds your fingers.

YABU. I would hardly call a Costa cup snobbery

I'd imagine this sort of thing went out of fashion with the ending of the series Friends.

Leave Costa alone!

After watching Hugh's War on Waste I don't think holding a non-recyclable coffee cup is anything to be proud of, to be honest.

I have a reusable Krispy Kreme one which I won in a Christmas promo last year.

I sort of get what you mean, op.
We have a Costa in the sixth form common room where I work. The sixth formers all walk around with the takeaway cups carried just so- they def see them as an accessory.

Same with the younger students and those cooler type cups from Costa. Lots of instagram shots of them slurping from them.

Surveys show that many people see takeaway coffee as inspirational. You only have to peruse the sidebar of shame to see that no self respecting celeb would go shopping or walk out of a gym without a branded coffee cup in their hand.

It's not about bragging that you have the requisite three quid, it's about identifying with a lifestyle.

Maybe she just loves a flat white, or maybe part of her choice in spending cash on a takeaway coffee when her workplace presumably provides them for free is to do with tribal belonging.

This is hilarious! I'm imagining super models walking down the cat walk with Costa cups!

What if she was drinking coffee from Greggs?!!

Thanks for the laugh OP

Aspirational coffee. Who knew.

I always have a costa cup. I'm addicted to coffee. That's all.

Are you mad that people are drinking at Costa or the fact that the cups are non-recycleable? If it's the latter then isn't it the same at Starbucks etc?

France has just passed a ban on plastic cutlery and crockery. Despite Brexit, perhaps the UK will also adopt this?

Have none of you seen a celeb magazine then, or follow instagram? Surely you know that takeaway coffee is seen as cool/desirable amongst many young people, even if you don't see coffee that way yourself?

I love a Costa but I don't see it as remotely aspirational Hmm

Btw primark do brilliant double layer mugs big enough for long teas or coffees. Starbucks give a discount on every drink they serve in your own mug.

Oh thinking about it, forever living reps always photo themselves "business planning" in Costa

But no, not aspirational to me.
