AIBU?

To think I might have a teeny tiny chance of being hired

I had an interview today for a job I want more than anything. I was amazed I even got an interview. I've never been unsuccessful in a job interview in my life but this was different and I was nervous.

I just couldn't answer any of the questions, one of the interviewers looked at her watch and seemed uninterested. The interview didn't flow, so many awkward silences, i just wanted it to hurry up. The interview only lasted 25
Minutes instead of 45 minutes as I just went quiet.

So I presumed I had lost all chance of the job until toward the end of the interview they asked me for references, said I was pretty, asked me if I would be happy to take part in a training programme they would like me to go on as I'm fairly newly qualified, would I consent to a health questionnaire and when I could start/ let me know they would let me know the outcome first thing Monday. I thought maybe they're just being polite but then the interviewer took time to take me out of the building and talk to me about where I live and if I enjoyed my previous job.

Am I being daft to think I have a chance considering how bad the actual interview went? Could I be hired even if my answers weren't great.

They said you were pretty - was it a job as a TV hostess? Feel like I've stepped back in time to the 1970s. Hmm

If you weren't applying to be a model I think they sound very dubious to say you were "pretty" in an interview. I would absolutely advise not to work for them

What's pretty got to do with anything

Unless the interview was to be a model or similar I don't see how mentioning you being pretty would be appropriate Confused

Sorry no I don't. But then they sound awful.

Agree with PP. When we interview we have a set of standard set of questions about references, salary, start date etc, and we ask each candidate the same no matter how they have done throughout the interview.

Was the interviewer trying to chat you up when you left?

Pretty?

Is it a 1960s ad firm?

This has just reminded me of an interview I had back when I was a teenager. It was for an admin post at jeans company. When I got there, after working hours, the guy wanted me to try on their merchandise (no changing area). I refused, didn't get the job... He knew my boss at the time (now that is a tale of sexual harrassment) and told him that I had been for interview and was crap. Even 18 year old me knew that he was a horrible voyeur. Thank goodness I had some sense of self preservation...

Haha they were both women. I didn't take it the wrong way. I don't think they meant attractive. Just well presented/neatly dressed. I hope anyway!

The way they said it wasn't creepy. Maybe my op gave the wrong impression. It was said in passing.

Ah so they might have been going through the motions! I really want this job. It's permanent, decent wage, professional.
I feel I've blown my chances :-(

Don't lose heart. It's not going through the motions, it's equal ops and giving each candidate the same chance.

I hate interviews!

Social worker aren't you OP?

Really quite incredible behaviour from interviewers, wasn't it, I would be taking action about such comments if I were you. Social Services depts really bear no resemblance to the Playboy Mansion, on the whole.

Jeez can interviewers not make a compliment without it being taken the wrong way? I'm glad I'm nothing like that. They are both heterosexual married women. Of course hey weren't chatting me up or being sexual. Confused

No, job interviewers in local government should not-male or female-comment on an interviewees looks (your OP states that they said pretty-not well presented or neatly dressed)

I am very, very surprised that a traiend social worker would not see that this is inappropriate behaviour.

You sound very young and inexperienced and it's worrying that they said you were pretty...when you're going for a social worker job. How strange. Anyway maybe you could ask for some tips on where you may have gone wrong? Is there anyone in the social work area you could ask to practice interviews with?

Did they really say that? I can't imagine any professional serious interviewers saying that ( apart from model interviews 😂)

Also wondering how you know they were married heterosexual women???

I'm a married woman - fancy women too! How did their marital statussexuality come up in the interview ?????
Totally weird and unprofessional to call you pretty or comment in any way on your appearance
Need more Info to clarify ......
