To be scared of a thunderstorm

Down in the north west we've got a very heavy and loud thunderstorm.. But it's literally the first one in my whole life I've ever been on my own through and I'm shaking ..
Sky has gone down and I can't get a signal for the digital tv either so I'm sat in silence.. Can all you lovely people give me a distraction please?

OP posts:

I'm in the North West tonight too and I've never heard or seen a storm like this before - it's almost biblical! My dog is cowering in the corner and frankly, I'm tempted to join him

Ooooh, I'm really hoping it comes over to West Yorkshire. I'd love a good storm. Hopefully it'll pass soon OP. Remember that if you're indoors you're as safe as you can be Flowers

It passed me by earlier, think we were slightly on the edge of it though - no thunder either but very close and bright lightning.

Why is there no thunder?

Afraid I can't help much as I too love a good thunderstorm - admittedly that's provided I'm safe inside. I suppose it's the drama of it coupled with being cosy and warm and dry whilst it's bucketing down outdoors. No rain where I am, in fact it's horribly hot and humid, so I'm very jealous!

guiness I'm in West Yorkshire and it's arrived with a crash and a bang here! Never known anything like it! I agree with the person who referred to it as biblical 😱

West yorkshire here....the storm is amazing! Some of the brightest lightning i've ever seen it's insane!!

Though my mum has just text me a photo of her dog hiding under the sideboard Sad

If you dont mind me asking, what is it you are actually scared of? The noise? The flashing? Lightning strike? Could you close the curtains and read a good book with ipod on?

In Preston had a few flashes and bangs, not much though. Just biblical monsoon rain!

It was in the south west earlier , first one for ages & we were promised a heat wave today. I once slept in the bath in a windowless bathroom to avoid a storm. I'm pleased to say that's one thing that's improved with age, I absolutely love a good storm these days.

If you're scared go and sit in a car, it's the safest place to be because the car acts like a Faraday cage. Smile They did it on Top Gear!

I'm in Cambridgeshire and I'm jealous. Envy No storms here! Not even any clouds. Sad

I was born in a thunderstorm, love them. Do feel for those who don't like them though, some are related to me and they really suffer
