About the price of chicken fried rice?

DH and I have just ordered Chinese food for dinner and despite me begging that he doesn't embarrass me by ordering such a non-meal he has ordered chicken fried rice for £6.

I've ordered crispy shredded beef in satay sauce with a portion of fried rice for £6.50.

AIBU in thinking that chicken fried rice shouldn't cost the same as an actual meal?!

You should join the Police force / become a soldier / firefighter etc then you could get that fried rice for £4.80. Grin

Beef dishes £4.80

So, yes, the chicken fried rice does seem excessively expensive.

It is quite a lot for what it is but they know that we'll pay it because it's bloody lovely Grin

Is it really embarrassing that he wants chicken fried rice? Do you think they're analysing your order that much?

God, I love chicken fried rice. One of my favourite dishes. And I've worked in a few Chinese takeaways and Chinese posh restaurants.

Sorry to sound thick - is it literally fried rice with chicken added?

When you read Chicken fried rice too many times all you see in your head is the image of a chicken with a wok.

Report
HoneyDragon · 13/09/2016 17:22

Actually that's probably why it's so expensive it must take a lot of financial investment teaching chickens to fry rice.

I read that wrong Honey and now all I can see is a chicken head in a wok.

Ohh, it's rice fried by a chicken. Gotcha!

Report
toastymarshmallow · 13/09/2016 17:23

But it is an actual meal. The only thing missing that your meal has is the sauce.

TheGruffaloMother · 13/09/2016 17:24

It's more like egg fried rice with chicken added Koala. And extra MSG Grin

Surely chicken fried rice is classed as a meal? Well it is to me

Chicken fried rice is a main meal.

It's usually larger than a side portion of rice. And obviously has chicken in it.

The takeaway will have an idea of how much they want customers to spend per head. So all main meals will be around threat price.

Usually comes in a larger tray. With chicken, maybe some prawns, bit of char siu pork.

Mmm. It was between pad Thai and fried rice for dinner tonight. Think fried rice has edged it! Home made though, sadly.

Chicken fried rice, salt and pepper chips and a carton of curry sauce.
Every Friday night without fail. I look forward to it all week.

Only posting in the hopes the food thread police pop by and tell leccy they'd add more protein and a few cucumber slices to her Friday night tea. Oh and ditch the chicken fried rice, salt and pepper chips and curry sauce Grin

I was going to say the same as toasty it is a meal, just without the sauce.

We would order chicken fried rice with a meal deep fried crispy shredded beef and get chips with the meal and then share the lot.

Barbarity, I make my own too. It's less dry, has peas and lots of spring onions, ginger, garlic and a shredded omelette in it - and bears absolutely no resemblance to the takeaway version, but we all call it 'chicken fried rice'. Grin
