AIBU?

To think this Amazon seller is completely disingenuous in his surprise that the book I received is not what I thought I ordered.

I Ordered a book on Amazon. I wanted a specific edition. The listing on Amazon said in the title it was a puffin edition and stated the year of publishing . ISBN no on Amazon listing corresponds to book I thought I ordered.

The book arrived today and is a reader's digest edition. Obviously I asked to return and as book is not as described want the seller to pay for return postage.

The seller is refusing and has pointed me to the seller's notes where it states that the book on sale is a different publisher, different ISBN. The seller's notes are not easily available on the mobile site.

AIBU to think that the seller was deliberately out to deceive. Why list a book under one title but state in the small print it's a different book otherwise?

AIBU to think that the headline description should match what I ordered given it states the publisher and the year of publication?

I will be taking this further with Amazon tomorrow, but I'm fuming.

Very naughty

I expect you'll be told caveat emptor but still...

I expect so too. Lesson definitely learned. Thankfully not a lot of money, but still...

I have form for gnashing my teeth at the slightest thing anyway. I expect I will have none left by tomorrow.

I'd contact Amazon.
When I was sold something fake they refunded straight away even though they weren't the seller?

Naughty seller. I guess it's because if they listed it under the actual Readers Digest ISBN they'd never, ever shift it. Putting the different ISBN and publisher in the notes is disingenuous as you say. I would be very surprised if you don't get your money back. Just point out to Amazon under an A to Z claim that the seller notes are difficult to access in the mobile site, and the book has been listed under the wrong ISBN and I'm fairly sure they will find in your favour.
Can I ask what title it was?

Definitely worth contacting amazon. I got a book that wasn't the advertised edition (it was a recipe book which said spiral bound but was an ordinary paper back when it arrived) and got a partial refund from the seller that was without contacting amazon, but they've been helpful with other problems.

If they are a business seller doesn't distance selling stuff apply?

Be very specific when you leave feedback for thrm (and tell Amazon)

Complain to Amazon, they cant list it as one item in the listing and another in the small print. Its likely you'll get your money back from Amazon.

I've always used the online chat option when I've had problems with Amazon and have always got decent service.

Complain to Amazoand leave shitty feedback. Clearly disingenuous and most likely deliberately so, but if the actual details were in there, even if hard to find, it's likely they haven't contravened anything.

Isn't the Readers Digest an abridged edition? If so, it's not even the same book.
Amazon will be on your side, I'm sure.

I think Amazon will tell them they must refund you
The point of the ISBN is to make it clear what you are getting
Sellers notes is not the place for that information.

Isn't the Readers Digest an abridged edition?

Yes, I was thinking this too. So quite a different product then.

The seller should have ensured the notes were accessible for mobile sites... Wouldn't that be classed as false advertising if the ISBN number was different from the seller's note?

I haven't had this issue with Amazon, however I did with Ebay and I got a full refund from the vendor ( counterfeit goods).
You paid for a specific item but received something different to what you ordered.
Stick to your guns and request a refund asap.
If you dont have a PC, log in at the library ,just to make sure you haven't misread anything.

Caveat emptor will not apply - it's an online purchase, and you can return it for 14 days for any reason you like. You will also be covered under 'not as described' rules.

The law for online purchases is much stricter than in person. Amazon will back you also.

You can return it for any reason but you must pay postage however, ask amazon to contact the seller and advise that conditions of sale state the book must be sold as described. If still no joy, a detailed a to zoom claim and ask amazon to submit a complaint against the seller. The seller support team will take it seriously and will intervene for you
Good luck.

Is the book you actually got listed on Amazon? Were they being inept/corner-cutting at listing and sticking under the closest thing they could find rather than set up a new book database entry?

I have just had an issue like this with an Amazon seller: I ordered a box of pens from them in a specific colour; they sent a slightly different colour. When I queried it, they didn't actually STOCK the colour they had listed on Amazon so had sent the nearest they had. I felt so petty quibbling but I wanted the colour I wanted. In the end I got a refund so worth taking the time to pursue it.

To be fair to the seller it does sound like Amazons listing is incorrect (Amazon provide all listings) if you have received the correct isbn for the product listing?

However, of course the seller should be telling you to return the item.

Open an A-Z claim if it is not resolved, explaining the error in the listing and you will be refunded.
