To admit defeat

Fine, she wins! I am totally crap at dealing with my DD1!

She is nearly 4 and whilst charming, hilarious, bright and friendly, she is also bolshy, stubborn, shouty and suffers from selective deafness!

Me and DH have just lost it at bedtime - she simply cannot go to bed without epic levels of farting about which escalates into shouts of "mummy!" "Daddy!" endlessly about any old crap she can think of to get us upstairs. Can't ignore her too much as she has a baby sister that I don't want waking up!

I feel totally out of control with her and don't know how I can manage her anymore. Can I just admit defeat and let her do whatever she wants?!

She's my 2nd child BTW - I have done this age before which makes me feel like even more of a failure! Confused

No. Pick her up, sort out the bathtime routine with the minimum of fuss. Don't engage in silliness. Put her to bed, give her a kiss and say something like " we will have fun tomorrow when you have your bath." Turn off the light and don't let her come downstairs.

Get the wine in the fridge. You have my full sympathy. I'll join you in admitting defeat - dd2 is 22 months & driving me Batshit.
I actually lost it tonight - gave her the usual 5 count, said bye bye & instead of waiting by bedroom door & rapid returning went downstairs & left her screaming by the stairgate. 3rd time this week we are upto the 1.5hr plus. 18 months of her not sleeping - and i'm finished.
Her dad is coming tomorrow so he can have the overtired maniac.

When dd1 was like your dd (it really is just a phase) we used to do a checklist as she got tucked in, couple of checks that she had everything, audio cd - worked really well for me, and I said i would check on her in x time.

Good luck

Silent return. It's grim, but works. Good luck!
