I was a massive user of Mumsnet , but i hardly ever visit now because i can guarantee within 10 replies on any thread it will have turned nasty. Why ? I spent many an evening having a real good laugh at some of the stories but now it seems to be who can be the nastiest first . Shame shame .

IceBeing Wed 07-Sep-16 14:36:45

I agree. MN used to feel more positive..more funny.

Now anything you post gets a barrage of shit and only clams down to reasonable discussion by around 50 posts in.

Zombieswillreign Wed 07-Sep-16 14:38:35

Yep totally agree,I've taken to private messaging if I'm writing something I don't want criticised ....I've even private messaged someone who had a go at me on two different threads in one night and asked if I'd done something to upset them......I used to love mums net,I don't think I'm resilient enough for it now

Queenbean Wed 07-Sep-16 14:39:57

People looking through rose tinted specs has been on MN forever

It's not any better or worse than it has ever been

Cocklodger Wed 07-Sep-16 14:40:47

There are nasty people in all walks of life.
Hardly 'every thread' or even most turn nasty.
Some do of course, but if its unjust then 9/10 a poster will be along to back the OP up and point out some truths that will shut down nasty posters. I partially agree with you, I not long ago saw a poster who was frustrated with her employment situation and sounded to be doing everything she could told that ''you can't be upset for the fact you didn't work hard enough at school''....
So yes, there are dickheads about. maybe more than before. But the vast majority of the time an unjust flaming will get turned on its head by posters with some sense.

Soubriquet Wed 07-Sep-16 14:43:29

This is the second thread complaining about posters being nasty...

MN isn't one big thing. There's loads of different people who have different attitudes and pet peeves.

Wherever you go there will be nice people and nasty people. Even IRL.

Least on here, if you don't like what people are saying you can either ignore them and carry on or close the window and walk away

Heebiejeebie Wed 07-Sep-16 14:47:05

10 posts? 7, you bellend

TaterTots Wed 07-Sep-16 14:47:21

If people were as rude face to face as some of the people are on here they'd be permanently walking around with black eyes.

Buzzardbird Wed 07-Sep-16 14:58:33

grin Hee

Buzzardbird Wed 07-Sep-16 14:59:32

I blame FB, the comments on there today about MNrs are really nasty. Ironic that isn't it?

cjt110 Wed 07-Sep-16 15:04:22

Too many keyboard warriors. Pretty certain many wouldnt have the balls to say it to your face....

Waltermittythesequel Wed 07-Sep-16 15:04:27

It's no different than it's ever been really.

I've even private messaged someone who had a go at me on two different threads in one night and asked if I'd done something to upset them

Sorry but I would find it so weird to get a pm like this! I think it would make me a little uncomfortable. Can't adults disagree and debate??

JudyCoolibar Wed 07-Sep-16 15:06:57

Just keep away from AIBU. If you look elsewhere you'll see loads of threads where people are being nothing but lovely, reasonable and supportive.

Doggity Wed 07-Sep-16 15:06:58

Only on AIBU really. I've not seen it in other forums. Also, I've noticed people starting threads that are quite defensive and borderline aggressive which set the tone. I'm not saying yours is but some of what you have said will get people's backs up. How can you stereotype the whole of MN by one board?

brasty Wed 07-Sep-16 15:12:15

I disagree that it has got worse. You do have to be resilient to comment or post on some parts of the forum, and in other parts it is very supportive. It has always been the case.
I do think there are more trolls, since penis beaker.

ssd Wed 07-Sep-16 15:13:37

I agree with you op, I've been here over ten years and only recently I've noticed posters seem to be really aggressive sometimes and love to pick apart vulnerable posters

WaitrosePigeon Wed 07-Sep-16 15:14:25

There's always been arseholes.

Arfarfanarf Wed 07-Sep-16 15:17:54

The vast majority of threads are perfectly nice, friendly and helpful.

There are eleven million bloody topics and sub topics grin and the vast majority of them plod on perfectly nicely.

AIBU does seem to be seen by some as a place to be a twat, even going so far as to say things like well you posted here what did you expect?

Weeelll.. maybe decent human beings, perhaps grin

Ive been here since about 2004. Yes. There are more nasty threads.

But there are more threads full stop. Many more.

You could at one point click on 'last' 24 hours and see absolutely everything! (Do they still even have that button? Last 15 minutes etc? )

Now there must be hundreds and hundreds of posts in an hour.

So expressed as a percentage of total threads and posts, are there more nasty ones? Probably not.

Posts that break talk guidelines should be reported.

oldlaundbooth Wed 07-Sep-16 15:18:18

It is what it is.

ssd Wed 07-Sep-16 15:18:23

jesus, I've just posted the above post and some smartarse on another thread has just pointedly asked me why do you go on mn then ssd, as I said I dont read every thread I click on , who the hell does!

yep, definitely more arseholes here, luckily enough I;m now menopausal and am more than up for a fight!!

windmillsofyourmind Wed 07-Sep-16 15:22:43

I think the ones who are nasty are probably nasty in real life but on anonymous forums they get free rein to be as nasty as they want without having to hold back.

MrsTerryPratchett Wed 07-Sep-16 15:27:33

I think there's more po-faced stuff now but I started posting 7 years ago and got my arse handed to me then. 'Twas ever thus.

Stay out of AIBU and you'll be fine.

whattodowiththepoo Wed 07-Sep-16 15:38:54

I find like most forums people tend to turn to arguing with other posters and for that person the thread is no longer about the op.

Benedikte2 Wed 07-Sep-16 15:41:19

Very often the Nasty posts are posted in response to the OP's first post, sometimes without reading even that properly, and ignoring any subsequent explanations by the OP. These posters seem to rush in with ill conceived preconceptions (bit of a mixed metaphor there!) about the OP with the sole intention of skittling them. Would be acceptable if they were merely voicing a different opinion but they are not.

bibbitybobbityyhat Wed 07-Sep-16 15:46:19

Is it nasty of me to say that I find the use of the word "nasty" a bit childish? Ditto horrid.

I much prefer: unpleasant, rude, sarcastic, dismissive, ignorant. There's plenty of that around, I do agree op.
