Dogs at work

We don't allow dogs at work we have a huge sign on the wall outside but people still act surprised when I don't allow them or they ask if they can carry them then they always storm off claiming to spend there money else where happens atleast twice a day Really winds me up and no we never used to allow dogs either

How are people meant to order if they can't bring their dog in with them?

I love living in Devon where it is so dog friendly.

I also don't understand the reasoning behind banning dogs from shops. If they are on a lead they are usually better behaved than many children.

Are you in a rural area where other cafes do allow dogs?

Always amazes me in Buttermere in The Lakes dogs aren't allowed in the cafe when every other cafe in a 15 mile radius lets them inside.

If you're in a park where lots of people walk their dogs I'll say you aren't on a winner.

If it was my shop I'd allow it from a selling point of view. Dog owners spend money, in fact people who own dogs round here and visit cafes are often quite wealthy.

And it depends what type of shop I guess. Gifty wifty, God yes - loads of money in that

lots of pubs and cafes allow dogs where we live. how are we supposed to eat/drink tea/wine otherwise? I don't always want to sit outside in the rain, or in clouds of cigarette smoke.

How is a small well behaved dog that bad? she smells better than some people I know and lies asleep under the table (we have spend years going to pubs training her). She is also cleaner than most people's shoes

Because they are unhygienic, they've generally had their face up another dog's bottom. Their hair may mount all over the place which may be bad if people have allergies and, as was in the media last week, they may have ticks which might decide to jump over to the nearest human.

Would you take a cat or guinea pig to a shop? If not, why are dogs different (except guide/hearing dogs, obvs).

What's the alternative to them 'storming off to spend their money elsewhere?'.

I wouldn't expect to take my dog in a highstreet cafe, but if I were halfway up a touristy/walky landmark and there was a cafe+stone floored giftshop I might be surprised they would want to turn my business away. I probably wouldn't 'storm off' though, I'd just say 'Oh, ok, I'll go to Other Place, thanks'

they let them in shops in germany. i was in a really posh department store in berlin and nearly stepped in dog shit on the escalator - it was smeared into the grooves. after that, i will never think it's acceptable to allow unemployed dogs in shops.

People's shoes tend to be unhygienic. They're allowed in cafes and shops....on the floor.m as long as dogs are on the floor I don't see the difference.

I pretty much only holiday in keswick now because of this, it's been voted most dog friendly town and dogs can go in everywhere apart from Gregs and Costa. I take her in Joules, in White Stuff, in Fat Face.....they even all have dog water bowls in the shops.

What about the people who are afraid of dogs, why should they have to feel uncomfortable because someone has brought a dog in. I have dogs, I would expect to take them anywhere unless it stated dog friendly

I work in a clothing shop in the Lakes. We allow dogs. And we get a lot of customers saying they don't understand why other shops don't let them in. I mean, the Lake District is an outdoorsy place full of people who go hiking and fell walking with their dogs.

They're cleaner and better behaved than most of the children, who run riot, pull things off rails, hide in changing rooms and play chase around the place. The dogs, on the other hand, sit quietly with their owner, or trot along nicely while they have a browse.

Lol I'm with ReaityCheque. Maybe us non crazy dog ladies don't want your dogs hair and slobber all over the goods we'd like to purchase . . . or worse! In the food at the cafe!
