To send DS to school in uniform without logos?

We had a letter before the break saying the uniform was changing and the uniform was compulsory. Fair enough no problem with that. DS is in y1 so uniform gets ruined with paint etc. So I by from Tesco or Asda. Today I receive a letter saying the school uniform is compulsory and consists of:
A red jumper (with school logo)
Black trousers
White polo shirt

If I fail to comply with the school's uniform policy, I will be fined. I don't earn a fortune and DS2 and DS3 are in secondary school. For them the bare minimum (1 blazer, 2 pairs of trousers and 3 shirts each) costs £160. Add £7.50 for a logoed jumper that I can get in Asda for £3 works out a too much for my pocket. AIBU to not by logoed jumpers? ATBU to fine me for putting my child in a non logoed jumper so that I can feed him? (Yes money is that tight)

I think for an extra £4.50 I would buy the logo'd jumper. If everyone else has it I wouldn't want my DC to feel the odd one out.

It does say about considering the cost and choosing items available easily and cheaply, i.e. from a supermarket.

I'd be saying no. I've bought it now. As it wears out I will replace it with the logo jumpers.

7.50 isn't too bad, ours are £10.50, they are much better quality than the asda ones though, if you have to replace the asda ones it's the same price as paying once for the school one. The worst thing is if they lose it at school, even if named, I once had a brand new cardy lost in week 2, finally returned the following June!

You shouldn't have to buy logo. I buy logo cardigans but polos are a 5 pack from Asda. There is no need to spend as much on one short as you can get a whole pack for just because it has a logo.

I'm buying one logo sweatshirt. I cannot justify the cost. My nephew has the school logo badge that they stitch onto the asda jumpers. Is this an option? I've just reminded myself to check this out for me!

The gov.uk link says "ie from a supermarket" not "eg from a supermarket". Because it's the former, you can say that it MUST be from a supermarket because ie = that is (and not "for example").

Can't you just photocopy the logo and machine embroider it onto a piece of felt/cotton?

Ask for the logo on a badge to sew on, telling them you cannot afford to buy a logo one

My sons school has logo'd sweatshirts AND polo shirts! They can only be bought at tesco uniform service or one other retailer at £8.50 per sweatshirt and £6.25 per polo shirt.

Annoying as it is - especially when the logo'd items go missing. I would get your dc the logo'd stuff as they will otherwise be one of very few that don't have it and will stand out.

Ring and check which is actually essential. Our online supplier lists 'compulsory' logod items but actually only blazer and tie are essential.

I'd buy a jumper, even if it's just the one which you will have to wash regularly through the week. I'd hate for my child to get picked on if they were the only one without - kids will notice and they can be really cruel.

My son's school offers a uniform allowance for people receiving pupil premium, it's worth finding out if you are entitled to that if money is that tight.

Where are you? If UK I can only suppose they're proposing to send him home then fine you for unauthorised absence. Which is obviously absurd and could i think be fought if you wanted to.

We buy the uniform in normal shops for much less than what the school charges. Only buy the jumpers with logo on. Is that not a possibility?
