AIBU?

We used a name to honour my FIL (but changed the spelling) so he is moaning that we might as well not have bothered. Should I change it?

I'm actually upset/annoyed. My FIL has an okay name (I don't love it, but we used my dad's name for DS1, so didn't mind using it) however both DH and I hate the way his dad's name is spelt, it's a 'unique' spelling.

So we used the original spelling. He is very annoyed claiming it's a completely different name and is giving DH a hard time about him preferring my dad and letting me walk all over him Hmm

Now I don't even want to use the blinking name!! WIBU to change the name? (Our son is registered btw)

Depends on the name and now you've changed it really.

If you dislike the name then change it. If you like it, keep as is.

I would be tempted to change it to something completely different. I can actually see why he is annoyed, but your baby's name is your and OH's choice, and there is no way I would give in to emotional blackmail.

I hate pointless "unique" spellings of names, yanbu. Change it, he isn't honoured so what's the point? He has taken any good now and you don't like the name so feck him. What name is it?.

Tell him you'll change it if he doesn't stop going on about it.

Tell him you quite happy to call him George but didn't want ds2 to go through life saying "no, it's spelled Geordsh" or be rejected for credit because they can't find him.

He sounds like a horrid person and not worthy of having your son named after him at all.

Well, DS2's name is William

Thanks for the comments, I feel better now and not like I'd be an arse if we changed it

How on earth does your FIL spell William?? Shock. You're not remotely unreasonable for spelling it properly!

Willeeam? Will1am? Wylliam? Wyllyam? Loads of possibilities.

Is your FIL will.I.am?

Hand, FIL has a 'unique' spelling of it.
