DS2 and his new teacher

Ever since DS2 was little he has hated having things round his neck, or tight/tucked in round his waist. He won't wear scarves, he wears the necker for Beavers half way down his chest, he doesn't like the school sweatshirt, and all labels have to be cut out of tops. He also prefers wearing v-necks, polo shirts or shirts and if he does wear a round neck t-shirt he stands there pulling the neck band away from his neck.
However, when it comes to trousers, he doesn't like things tucked in, if they are he gets really wound up, and pulls at the waistband and ends up pulling out the bottom of whichever top he happens to be wearing. I know it's unsightly but that's how he is.
Anyway, new PE teacher at school makes them tuck their t-shirt into their shorts, and wants them to wear round neck t-shirts. Well, DS2 is kicking off big time about this. The past two weeks on PE days (weds and Thur) have been a real battle to get him to school -all because his teacher wants him to tuck his top in and wear a round neck top! I wanted to go to school and just have a quiet word with teacher about it, but Dh says that they will think i'm being an interfering mother, but he's not the one who is battling to get a 7 year old out the house on PE days. So am i being unreasonable by expecting the teacher to let him wear his t-shirt hanging out the shorts?

Are the school otherwise aware of this ? i ask because there is a boy in dd's year who was similar and it also affected his uniform so he was allowed concessions. Is it worth writng ot the teacher in question, via the class teacher, and explaining ?

That's what i was going to do Liz, but DH thinks i am just making a big fuss. however, it seems to be a real issue with DS2

Ask your dh to be there one morning when you are battling with ds or get him to come up with an alternative solution. What actually happens in PE? Does he tuck it in? The teacher must already be aware of it as it is such a big deal for ds so maybe you could ask how they handle it? If you go and tell school your problem (ie, mornings) and ask them how they deal with it then you are not intefering are you?

Just something to be aware of, but it might be a safety issue if shirts are not tucked in. Obviosly round top neck or otherwise won't make a difference but I'm thinking of sports such as gymnastics or rugby where there may be a particular need for it to be tucked in.

Saltire, it is a safety issue with the shirt tucking in thing. I teach 6 and 7 year olds. However, I totally agree their must be some way around this. Please go into school and talk to them about it. I would be really upset if i knew that one of my class were feeling that upset about coming to school no matter what the reason. How dreadful for you both. Once they are aware of it and his intense feelings about it they will surely come up with a solution that suits everyone. Good luck.
