I'm a complete ipod virgin, I've never possessed an mp3 player in it's own right iyswim of any kind.

As late as 2007 I was enquiring about cassettes in Currys!!
I've got a CD player in my car - but no CDs currently.

So, how many of you have iPods?

I have an ipod shuffle.

It's blue.

I've still got one, but I don't think they are that popular any more.

Most people just use their phones now.

I stream/download music on my phone and play it via Bluetooth either to my car stereo or my wireless speakers.

KingJoffrey - I'm such a iPod virgin that I hardly know what the variations are - so I don't exactly know what an ipod shuffle is!!

leccybill - that's what I thought - I do have an iPhone and have managed to download quite a few tracks on to it.

If you want to move with the times, just bypass the iPod, buy a shit hot mobile phone and pay for spotify premium which is also a hell of a lot simpler. To put it simply: vinyl, you owned a work of art; you owned a hard copy of the music; mp3 you owned a digital version if the music; spotify, you own nothing but can play everything whenever you want. It's the way the world is moving. A subscription model for nearly everything.

I have an iPod but find if you don't have a Mac and have a lot of old alphabetised music on your computer, you are basically screwed in terms of getting organised.

Thanks Oddity - I've got an iPhone but only ever downloaded iTunes tracks on it. I know a lot of people use Spotify but I have never! (yet)

Yeah agree with TheOddity what you needed Spotify on your phone.

Spotify premium is £1 for three months right now I think. Just try it on your iPhone for a bit and then set a date on your phone calendar to cancel the sub if you don't like it.

You can get a free version of Spotify to try out, you get adverts but it's worth it to get used to how it works

Is Spotify an app?

I am typing this on my iPod. I already have a good sim only deal on my (crap) windows smartphone, so thyipod basically does everything that an iPhone does ( I think) but without the phone, which I don't need.

I don't know what kind it is or how much it cost (present from DH), but I think it's great - I can get internet through wifi at home, it's got a good camera and I can access all the apps and obviously iTunes too. The main downside is not being able to use the internet outside the house (unless you tap into another wifi hotspot) but as a mum on maternity leave I'm home a lot so it's not a problem!

Oddity has summed it up very well. Although I have Amazon Prime which includes Amazon Music, but DH prefers Spotify. Normally I'm pretty good with technology but I recently purchased a new MacBook and received free wireless Beats headphones. They are pretty good but a bit of a bugger to connect via Bluetooth

I didn't realise you could type things on an iPod CoffeeandOranges - I thought it was just for music!!

Yes Spotify is an app, you can download it for free from the App Store on your iPhone and stream any music you like :)

You can then buy speakers that connect to your phone via Bluetooth (wirelessly) or that has a dock where you plug your phone in :)

Spotify is basically the equivalent of Blockbuster video for music in this era. It's a rental company where you pay a subscription to use all their music, of which there is basically everything. It also has a free service with ads which doesn't let you download. So the free service is a bit like radio but better, while the premium is like having an infinite and very organised mp3 collection, accessible online or, if you download, offline. It is accessed via an ap just like iTunes. Download the app and try free for a bit!

I've got an ipod somewhere. It's been so long since I used it is don't even know where. I found it to be too much hassle, especially when ds1 got one and we couldn't have 2 iTunes accounts on the same computer Hmm

We all use Spotify now. So much easier.

My DD has a IPhone 6, that she listens to music on. Me and my younger DD also do the same.

I bought a IPod Shuufle, for when I was walking the dog. My DD did the same for when she's jogging/bike riding. It just protects your phone from being lost/dropped etc.

It depends on where and when you want to listen to music.

I have an iPod Touch. It's basically a tiny version of an iPad. As well as music you can download/watch BBC iPlayer etc.

I don't have a mac (although my dd does). I do have loads of cd's though. You simply rip and copy through itunes onto the iPod.

It receives email. IMessages. Internet. Facetime etc etc etc.

I luffs my iPod.

The iPods which are like iPhones without the phone bit are iPod Touch models. There are also Nanos and Shuffles. Nanos have a screen so you can control what's going on. Shuffles don't as they are tiny.

You really don't need to pay for an iPod though. I have a fantastic Sony one that doesn't require farting about with iTunes.

I don't use my phone - smartphone batteries are crap enough without adding in 8 hours of music at my desk every day!

I love my iPod, it's an iPod touch 5 (I think). I bought it refurbished from Apple, and I use it primarily to listen to podcasts.
