To ask for medical advice?

I am in rather a lot of discomfort but can't get a GP appointment until Friday. I was wondering if anyone could give me a heads up as to how I can deal with the pain. I had this a couple of years ago, and I was diagnosed with inflammation and an infection in my stomach. Pylori helicobacter??? I had to take a shed load of antibiotics.
I have a hiatus hernia and acid reflux. Triggers for setting it off are large meals, fried food, spicy food and alcohol. Stress too, I think.
I am on 30mg lansaprazole (sp?).
Yesterday morning I had a cup of black coffee and within a half hour began to feel really ill. I got home and went to bed. I was in quite a bit of pain with my stomach but it passed at about 7pm. I ate a small piece of cheese then and other than sips of water that's all I had yesterday. This morning I felt OK and had scrambled eggs for breakfast. All good and just sipped water. ( I was worried in case it was the coffee that upset me yesterday)
About a half an hour ago I had a handful of mixed nuts and now I'm feeling rough again. My stomach feels as if I've been kicked by a horse.
I have tramadol and paracetamol in the house. Could either of these help?

Im not medical but id take the paracetamol and maybe a big glass of milk to make sure youve lined your tummy. If you still feel rough tonight id call 111 for advice. Or maybe ring your gp and ask the receptionist for advice they sort of triage you and she may well get the gp to ring you or invite you in feel better soon.

I never though paracetamol would work for a stomach pain but when I took my boy in for stomach pain both doctors asked if I had given him some as it does help.
Just don't take ibuprofen.

Drink some gaviscon and get some ranitadine (I take 300mg so you can take a massive dose of the otc stuff)

Stay away from dairy (it'll make it worse the sugars in it) and call 111

If it's spasmodic cramping buscopan may help

While you're feeling delicate I'd avoid rich foods like cheese and nuts, stick to lighter things like non creamy soup and toast. Ever had gall bladder issues?

Don't take anything in the ibuprofen family, I'd try gaviscon liquid and ranitidine. Also as above, don't drink milk as it can cause your stomach to produce more acids

Buscopan can help for stomach issues, but you need to buy it from a pharmacy

Thanks everyone. Can you take Gaviscon with lansaprazole?
I'm going to try paracetamol.
Big yay to avoiding nuts!!
Gall bladder? Not to my knowledge.
Just thanks guys.

I agree with avoiding dairy especially milk (that gives me chronic heartburn). I would stick with small boring meals until your system calms down.

I often find that my stomach becomes more sensitive if I've got a cold or other bug that I am fighting off. Sometimes it's the first warning sign.

Yes you can. I take 60mg lansoprazole 300mg ranitadine and drink gaviscon like it's going out of fashion (get 3 bottles prescribed a month on top of everything else)

Wow Puzzled, that's some major stomach trouble you have!
I've taken some paracetamol and I won't eat anything else today.

Yup. From years of taking medications I'm afraid. Its "only" gastritis and a hiatus hernia though but takes a lot to control.

I have a hiatus hernia too and it goes through phases of being bothersome. I am currently managing without any medication (pregnant) by managing my diet carefully. Tea, milk and coffee are some of my biggest triggers, but alcohol is the worst. I would never even try drinking black coffee. Try and watch out for your own triggers, mine weren't always the usual ones. My friend has a similar condition and garlic sets her off, but it doesn't affect me.

When I'm having a bad week, a double dose of lanzoprazole (60mg) usually has me right again but I'd ask your doctor about that. You should also be careful about when you take ranitidine/gaviscon as I know my lanzoprazole says you can't take other heartburn meds for a couple of hours afterwards.

Also just spotted what you said about not eating again today - that won't help. Bland food little and often with sips of water/weak juice in between is probably better :)

This is going to sound like a load of rubbish but Manuka honey (from Manuka bees) kills Pylori helicobacteria. It tastes gross and is dark brown and tar like. Get it pure from Holland and Barret. It works like magic. A scientist from Austraia won the Nobel Prize for science for discovering this. Promise it's not new age bull shit.

Try plain rice, boiled chicken (boil them together if you're feeling adventurous!) and plain crackers. Little and often is good

Ask for a telephone appointment if you can't get to see a GP til Friday. They might prescribe something over the phone or ask you to come in.

I'm actually fairly sure that milk is something it is recommended to drink during an acute attack...? Dairy is to be avoided after a vomiting bug, but whoever said upthread that milk helps to seal the stomach, and the open sore within, is correct.

Ok Thanks everyone. I'll see if I can get a GP appointment sooner. Unfortunately the receptionist's mission in life seems to be preventing any patients getting anyway near a doctor.
I think I'll pop another lansaprazole tonight. The paracetamol has kicked in and I'm feeling much better.
Can that pylori helicobacter infection come back?

If you've got hpylori are you on metronidazole to treat it? If so that stuff hates stomachs. Whenever I've had it I've had pain nausea and sickness.

ButIbeingpoor · 31/08/2016 15:23

I took some heavy duty antibiotics when they diagnosed the helicobacter last year. I presumed that was that. It did knock me off my A game alright.
I will have a slice of toast later. Actually I'm a bit frightened of eating. Two days of stomach ache and I'll try anything.
If there is any chance of another infection I'm getting that Manuka Honey.

Excoriated I think you might find that Barry Marshall won a Nobel prize for showing that stomach ulcers were caused by bacteria, not that Manuka honey cures them!

But did they do a follow up breath test to check that the antibiotics worked?

My partner had it and yes, it can return. I may be wrong about this, but isn't it autoimmune anyway?
