Jamie Oliver's new son is reportedly called River Rocket .

AIBU to think that it really isn't that bad a name?

SaucyJack Tue 23-Aug-16 17:38:00

Better than Buddy Bear, certainly.

somewheresomehow Tue 23-Aug-16 17:38:05

CremeEggThief Tue 23-Aug-16 17:39:11

I don't think River is too bad - wouldn't choose it myself but to each their own.

Rocket... well...

River Oliver is a mouthful though.

WyfOfBathe Tue 23-Aug-16 17:42:14

I think it's awful! But still not as bad as Buddy Bear.

At least the girls names Daisy/Poppy/Petal are real names, even if they're also nouns...

But then in a way I think it doesn't matter as much when your parents are that famous, because the people they socialise with probably have different ideas of "norms" (in naming but also in other areas) than most people.

I like it...tbh I like all his kids names...don't see the big deal about any of them myself!

They may pick odd names but the pics show a happy lovely family!! Don't see many of those in the media much anymore!!

Why. Just why.

Putting random words together does not make a name it makes a target. Poor kid.

BeingATwatItsABingThing Tue 23-Aug-16 17:46:04

I think it's a somewhat ridiculous name. It's not them who have to live with it forever.

parkingfun Tue 23-Aug-16 17:46:50

Yes, it is that bad.

AndYourBirdCanSing Tue 23-Aug-16 17:50:07

I actually love Buddy Bear blush

LiviaDrusillaAugusta Tue 23-Aug-16 17:51:14

It's fucking awful - i can't believe the 'quirky' names they have saddled all of their kids with. He does it just because he's a celeb.

quickquicknamechange Tue 23-Aug-16 17:52:54

It's shit. Utterly self indulgent. No thought for their child who has to wear that name for the rest of his life.

MidnightAura Tue 23-Aug-16 17:55:22

Ridiculous name but didn't expect anything else from Jamie Oliver.

NiallandNiamh Tue 23-Aug-16 19:21:13

I very nearly called DS River. he is very glad I didn't! I still like the name though! just think it could have been worse!

YABU. It's bloody stupid.

River, I could handle. Rocket?? And then there's Blue in there somewhere. (Like Beyoncé's 'Blue Ivy' - what is it with slebs and Blue? It's a colour!)

River Oliver does not roll off the tongue nicely at all.

KoalaDownUnder Wed 24-Aug-16 07:31:47

NeedaCleverNN too funny grin

FoxesOnSocks Wed 24-Aug-16 07:45:22

Well it's his name so people's opinion won't change that.

If someone stared in my work today called River Oliver I'd probably not waste much time thinking about it. I certainly wouldn't consider it a great name though - like when I worked with a Chuck Boggs: I really enjoyed his name!!

If I found out my work colleague River had a middle name Rocket I would think it a bit of an odd name.

River Rocket and River Oliver just sounds like they didn't put much thought into the actual overall name (same as Magnus Magnuson sounds and the first and middle names May Bee would sound). The effort went into the being different.

Porcupinetree Wed 24-Aug-16 07:53:12

Surely chances are; like all the Amelia Maes and the Joshua James' of the world, he will actually be known as River and nobody will really bat an eyelid?

DoreenLethal Wed 24-Aug-16 07:55:37

How do any names begin, really?

They are just sounds put together in a random order.

It's not Rocket Salad.

PurpleDaisies Wed 24-Aug-16 07:56:13

River Rocket sounds like a type of speed boat. It's awful.

Still, at least River is sort of a real name and they got Rocket as a middle name. I have taught a boy called Rocket.
