To think that brown rice is a lie!!!!

I am not being unreasonable. I can't be. It said it would be ready in 20-22 minutes on the sodding packet, 45 minuted later I gave up and ate my still crunchy brown frigging rice with my (now quite overcooked) stir fry.
I bought the bloody stuff to be healthy but it took so long to cook that I ended up eating cake while I waited cos I was so hungry. Cake!
Fuck brown rice.

Thank you for cheering me up. I hope you enjoyed your cake. Don't give up on the brown rice - when cooked it tastes great and is so much better for you

I agree - fuck brown rice. It takes months to cook and tastes weird. Life really is too short for that shit.

I never use to think I wold ever touch brown rice but now its all I eat. I get sainsburys own and boil it on a high heat for 28-30 minutes and it comes out perfect. Have to admit it was trial and error to find the right cooking temp and time. Persevere if you can as said before it is very good for you

Brown rice never seems to cook!

Yep. I gave it a good go, but I'm back to my gorgeous white rice.

Buy the microwave brown rice, it's much easier.

I'm having an emotional reaction right now, once I have calmed down and thought about it rationaly I will probably forgive brown rice and try again. Next time at least I know I need to start cooking it around breakfast time.

Boil in the bag brown rice takes 20 mins, bit more expensive but much easier!

Strange. I boil it for 25 minutes and strain off any excess water. I always ignore instructions that tell you how much water to add and treat it like potatoes. Perfect every time!

I buy frozen brown rice in packets. 4 minutes later and it's all done.

Microwave rice is the only type I buy.... Can't boil rice to save my life!

You need to buy the easy cook.

It does cook in about 25 minutes.

Once you get used to it white rice makes you feel cheated. Like eating fluff.

I had a stress induced stomach problem. I spent 2 sodding weeks eating wholegrains, bread, pasta, everything!

My doctor told me that some people react badly to whole grain/brown rice etc. I decided I must be one of them and have never touched the stuff since. It is awful.

Brown rice never cooks properly here, I just use good old reliable white again now

Agree with you! Having said that we use brown basmati instead and that's fine - probably takes 12-15 mins to cook which I can cope with. 45 minutes I can not!

What Hallowed said. I don't have a problem coming rice, but I'm buggered if I'm waiting 20 minutes + for it to cook. 50p a sachet from Sainos for plenty to feed 2.

I buy brown basmati. Says ready in 15-18 mins I think. I cook for 20-25. Good thing about brown rice, other than better for you and tastes much nicer, is that if you forget about it, it still hasn't turned to mush an hour later!

You just need to cook the rice (75ml rice, 150ml water) with the lid on the whole time. When there's no water left (you do need a transparent lid) it's done. Probably about 40 minutes. Then turn the heat off on the rice and cook the stir fry.
