its a quiet night grin

I always eat the skin, pile of pips of you peel it?

SuburbanRhonda Sun 21-Aug-16 20:41:36

Non-peeler here. Life's too short smile

ABloodyDifficultWoman Sun 21-Aug-16 20:42:03

I always thought you had to discard the skin but I read recently that most people eat it!

My family were peelers but it's more common to not. If you order a salad with figs in a restaurant it comes with peel about you eat the whole thing

You eat all of the figures. The burst of teeth through the outer skin is crucial

Heirhelp Sun 21-Aug-16 20:42:55

I always eat it. Why would you not? It is soft so it is pleasant to eat and full of fibre and vitamins.

Verticalvenetianblinds Sun 21-Aug-16 20:44:05

MiddleClassProblem Sun 21-Aug-16 20:44:58

Orange peel in fruit cake or candied

I eat it, had no idea there were people who didn't. Yum, I haven't had them in ages but love figs wrapped in parmesan stuffed with blue cheese or creme fraiche with horseradish.

LookMoreCloselier Sun 21-Aug-16 20:45:26

lol i meant parma ham, not parmesan

Verticalvenetianblinds Sun 21-Aug-16 20:45:45

in season at aldi smile

MiddleClassProblem Sun 21-Aug-16 20:46:17

Lol parmasan and blue cheese... Why not?

Verticalvenetianblinds Sun 21-Aug-16 20:48:42

cheesy figures!

uggerboff Sun 21-Aug-16 20:48:57

My DH eats orange peel, but he's a bit odd.

HemanOrSheRa Sun 21-Aug-16 20:49:28

Mmmmmm. Ripe fresh figs. I just nip off the stalky bit at the top and tuck in. You can't peel fresh figs. Good, ripe ones are so expensive if you peeled them you'd be left with nothing except a load of purple mush. Anyway, the contrast of slightly chewy skin and soft pippy centre is what makes them delicious.

apparently work colleague peels mushrooms to? i just rinse the mud off!

MiddleClassProblem Sun 21-Aug-16 20:50:45

If I saw her peeling mushrooms I would find if v hard not to laugh

HemanOrSheRa Sun 21-Aug-16 20:51:47

I don't even rinse mushrooms, just give them a wipe. And I don't eat orange peel but I do pass many a happy hour by making Dick Emery style false teeth out of them.

Velvetdarkness Sun 21-Aug-16 20:52:33

I eat kiwi skin. Apparently most people scoop out the inside with a spoon?
And yes I eat fig skin. And mushroom "skin".

WhingyNinja Sun 21-Aug-16 20:54:13

I eat fig skin, but not orange peel and you should never rinse mushrooms, they get all waterlogged! I just brush with kitchen towel but if you want to be fancy I'm sure theres an overpriced brush that'll do the job in your local cookware shop ;)

MiddleClassProblem Sun 21-Aug-16 20:56:08

Ew at eating kiwi skins though!
