AIBU?

To mutter obscenities under my breath the whole way through Topsy and Tim?

There was a thread about this recently so I went on YouTube.

WHEN DID TOPSY AND TIM COME TO LIFE?!!!

It's disturbing! It was an episode where Topsy is entrusted with the Grandma's brand new puppy in the park for all of TWO MINUTES and she just drops the lead out if her hand and runs towards the feckin slide. Que a not so frantic search for puppy like they've dropped a bus ticket or something. Then she doesn't even get told off! The bland beige mum just smiles and the Gean just tells them not to do it again.

Then they all go home for tea.

It's the mum who troubles me. I can't unravel my feelings towards her. Jealousy, perhaps, because she's always well groomed and unstressed. But then also pure irritation because she's just so effing straight.

I was watching it today, fuming. The camping one, fucking singing happy songs while calmly dealing with Topsy's appendicitis. The dad is such a drip and the mum totally smug. Aaagghhh.

Where is the bribery? The naughtiness? The bickering? It makes me feel like I need a good wash after it Grin

Yanbu. The one where they're moving house and the parents have friends over for a lovely meal the night before Hmm . Not running around like headless chickens packing boxes and tidying up like normal people.

I'm fine with most other kids TV but for some reason I want to punch topsy and Tim and their smug parents and granny in the face. I mentioned this to a friend recently who fancies herself as a bit of a topsy and tims mum type (she's not) and she literally hasn't stopped going on at me to change my mind about 'such a lovely' programme Angry YANBU

I saw the camping one twice today and my words to DH were "just as well the adults are not like us and getting shitfaced round the campfire while the kids piss about"

What annoys me the most is that they are supposed to be pre schoolers. They must be at least 9 years old! I told me disbelieving dp this, he thought the one about preparing to go to school was referring to secondary school!

Ugh, this programme is so fucking twee! All "so mummy blah blah blah" and mummy explaining everything calmly when actually, they are precocious little brats sometimes.

Where is mummy losing her shit because they have not listened after explicitly being told not to fucking touch that?

And the stupid drama out of the most mundane thing then the "what happened to us today" crap. Um nothing happened to you, your friend (why does he need to be referred to by his full name exactly, do you have 5 friends called Tony? No, then je doesn't need to be referred to as Tony Welch every sodding time!) got scratched by your rabbit, big deal, get over it, it didn't need an episode of its own!

Topsy and Tim are 11 and 10, so were 7 and 6 when it started.

My personal bugbear is that their new brother is not going to be adopted like in the books. Fantastic opportunity to show adoption positively in children's programming missed.

My favourite most ridiculous episode is when the twins phone 'DIY Derek' to come round as their dad is messing up the decorating.

They're always so calm, aren't they?

There never seems to be an episode where they're deliberately being naughty or ignoring, say, firm commands to stop jumping on the bed before falling off and getting a nasty bump. Or episodes where they're squabbling to the point of screaming or roughing each other up. Even when they do fall out, it seems to be more a case of one twin looking sad and saying "Tim / Topsy won't play with me Sad " rather than "sibling is a silly poo-head, yes they are, make them go away! Angry "

And the parents never seem to get cross or stressed. Maybe they're permanently on tranquilizers or something?

Urgh, the episode when they carry the massive fucking cake and its so obvious that they are going to destroy the fucker. Who the fuck lets a 4 year old carry a cake?! I say this as someone who recently purchased a cake with a 4yr old and declined the offer from the child to carry it because I am not Fucking Joy.

Why are all the other adults so bloody attentive to the precocious little shits as well? No one likes other peoples kids that much!

Topsy, Tim & the Mogadon Mother .... even my 5yo thinks she's creepy.

Aaargh it's the dad and the weird nasal enthusiastic voice he uses with his twintastic twins. And the neighbourhood paedophile they befriend who watches them from the window and waves. And the grabdmother's sing-song voice. And the way they never tell the children off. Or swear. Or put CBeebies on while reading mumsnet and sobbing into a gin. Aaaaaargh......

And breathe.

I know this is a light hearted thread but that programme makes me feel so alone. And I'm actually OK generally, but cannot imagine watching that through a bad patch.

It's got to be the least inclusive show on cbeebies.

Isn't the woman who plays the Mum married to the guy who played Lewis in Hollyoaks? I had a proper teen crush on him. So I was predisposed to hate T&T, good quality or not. Kind of glad to find it's crap.

T&Ts 'mummy' also played that particularly obnoxious policewoman in Eastenders who got squashed by a car - maybe her brain injury resigned her to a life of door-mattedness incredible patience with her bratty kids

Yes hunting and I've seen them both separately at local soft play places.
Ben Hull spoke to me, I nearly fainted with joy.

I said something the other day to DD and realised I sounded exactly like Joy when she says 'please go to bed for Danielle' in the babysitter episode. Since then I've noticed the voice a couple of times. I hate myself when I hear it.

YABU. In our house we shout obscenities loudly at the twintastic little bastards in their IKEA catalogue house. Muttering under your breath won't relieve the stress it induces. My OH and I like to do a realistic voice over throughout the episode. Stress relieving and boils my 4 year olds piss.
