As the title says really, 42 weeks pregnant now, been being induced for what feels like forever. Hospital are short staffed, delivery suite is rammed so I've been shoved in a side room and told they'll do nothing more until tomorrow.

Really not happy about this. I have a 2.8 year old who I'm missing terribly, I'm concerned about the increased risk of something bad happening when you go over 42 weeks and the whole thing is making me anxious!

It's ridiculous!!

Aw, I have so much sympathy, I was induced at 41+3 weeks and was so worried the longer it went, I worried about my baby being huge and worried about something going wrong, just like you.
I went in on a Tuesday am and finally had my son Friday pm. He was my first so I had no concept of how long it would take either! I was as fed up as you sound but kept reminding myself that as an anxious mother to be, the hospital with their constant monitoring was the best place to be. I had traces every 4 hours so knew the little one was safe and happy and actually, although I hated it at the time, in hindsight was the best place for me.
Sorry you're missing your daughter, you must be desperate to get home. Try not to worry about going over as they are looking after you in regards to that. Remember in a few days at the most, this will just be a memory and will, as my dad says, passed by in the river that is life! Flowers

Have you been given the induction medication or do you keep getting the start of your induction delayed in favour of more urgent cases? You could ask to speak with the consultant and make a huge fuss, or the on call supervisor of midwives. Truth be told however, if they are really so short staffed, it is probably safer for you to wait than crack on with breaking waters and putting up drips when there aren't enough midwives to watch over you. It's sucks though, fingers crossed your body takes over and starts itself off.

Ugh deja vu. DS was born on day 5 of failed stop start inductions at 42+2. I vote for 2-pronged approach - a) pushing for scan to check baby happy & placenta ok & that you are priority for next stage of induction and b) sneaky visit for home-made or pub lunch & to see your dc1. It was during an illicit pub lunch that my contractions proper eventually started....

My induction started at 9am on a Friday morning, and I finally had my daughter 9pm on Sunday night. It was hell. So sorry you're going through this. Hope it's over soon and you have your lovely baby in your arms

Oh dear op, poor you, I really hope things get moving soon, what have you had so far?

The lady opposite me on the induction ward had been in for days when I got there, she couldn't have a c section because of the position of her placenta and her baby was measuring really bog so they just kept giving her the gel and the pessary thing!

If nothing has happened, pick up your bags and tell them you're going home for a decent night's sleep and a proper breakfast and you'll be back tomorrow.

That was me. It was bloody awful. I ended up with a C-section anyway so what was the point?

However my 5 year old is beautiful and she was well worth the wait. Flowers

I've had the 30 hour pessary, then they closed the ward I was on due to low staffing and told delivery suite is full. Midwife has just come in to put a monitor on and said she'll probably just leave me to it now until tomorrow as I'm not having tightenings. Don't know what planet she's on or if she's read my notes because I've been having what feels like back labour for over 24 hours. I've mentioned it loads but nobody seems concerned.

I'll definitely ask for a scan to check the placenta and blood flow, just feel like I'll still be sat in this bed tomorrow lunch time waiting to go up to delivery suite for a simple examination.

After my labour failed they took me down to theatre. I'm surprised theyve not done that with you.

I feel for you, I was induced at just under 42 weeks and still took 4 days to have my daughter, it's so hard to keep your motivation up and if you're like I was you are probably shattered and not sleeping well too. I hope it all happens really soon for you x

Hello OP, I was in your position years ago, but still remember clearly the feelings of impotence and anxiety. All I can recommend is to keep moving, even if that only means tramping up and down hospital corridors, remember to eat and drink, just in case it all moves swiftly and as others have said insist on regular monitoring. Count those kicks! Be a pain in the arsenal, and keep your fluid intake up.
Hope you have that baby in your arms soon

Noodle I understand it's not a quick process, I was induced with my first aswell. I'm just concerned at me now being 42 weeks and how paiiiiinfully slow the process is this time round.

Been getting contractions now for 24 hours very very gradually getting more painful. I had thought it was the pessary initially but now it's out the pain is worse, could I be in labour?!!

Me again OP, well, it could be, I had all 4 of mine in hospital after induction, and all after various interventions: pessary, sweep, drip, rinse repeat, you get the picture?
Two of mine came after low grade discomfort, cramping etc without the full blown drip interventions, and keeping moving kept things going.
I know it's knackering, but moving, swaying your hips and supported rocking the pelvis should help, well it helped me,
