My partner kindly offered to treat me to a new haircut and we decided to go to Toni & Guy. I told them I wanted something different, change in style suggestions I have nice brown hair,keep the length don't cut short. I also asked for highlights sort of a light brown I liked Chrissy's hair from Emmerdale. I showed them a pic of a balayage also in a magazine It looked lovely. They told me the highlights I wanted would not suit me and I didn't want to have that but they suggested the balayage would be better, with the cut it would cost £120 !! I told them I was going on holiday in a couple days for two weeks and would it not affect it, change it. They said it would a bit but be fine. I was very uncertain plus why would I pay all that money for it to look different after holiday. I dithered as I was uncertain. With them being a top hairdresser they should have been advising me to wait till after holiday for colour surely? I said I would come back after for colour and they just looked hacked off tbh. They suggested with a bit of an attitude that I just have the darker permanent colour and have the balayagebalayage after holiday it would only cost a small amount after, twenty something pounds she said. I said I didn't want a permanent colour so she looked hacked off and said we'll do you a semi permanent. They were really pushing it. I reluctantly agreed and they washed my hair. The male director stylist cut it in about six minutes without seeming to take much care. I said I wanted straight sharp edges on the ends but he said a layer would be better so put a shorter layer in near bottom. Then they put colour on and coloured it. When was dry I noticed it quite red need roots and panicked. They said it was just a hint on crown, rest hair was just a slightly darker shade than my original colour sad I asked them to curl it, she used tongs and put a few big wave curls in it, not curls like photo I showed. It looked quite nice so I paid £ 100 and £19 for special colour hair conditioner to protect it and left. Within ten minutes the waves had dropped out so I went back in. They did it again put more spray on. By time I had driven home it had started to go flat again. I've been on holiday for two weeks. I used expensive shampoo and the conditioner and looked after it. I'm home now, a week later I've been fretting and moaning cos the colour has practically gone. My style looks messy and untidy all the time with the layers. After I've dried it it looks dry and not in nice condition, I have to straighten it to make look decent and shiny. I rang them about the balayagebalayage out of curiosity to be told that would cost another £50-£70 even though I told her colourist said £20+ pounds. Plus she said the had only put a tint in and not a semi permanent! I I have not booked again and told her that was not what I was quoted. I feel ripped off and not listened to. I don't want them going near my hair again I don't trust them and don't like the salon attitude. It's cost me £120 in total and feel bad cos my partner paid for it and I feel it looks untidy, now practically back to my original colour. I'm scared to ring up and complain. sad it's not what I asked for and I feel it looks crap. It was meant to be a treat and feel pampered yet it was quite stressful. Upset. Angry. Don't go T'&G.

I NEVER have a good experience in these "top salons" I hate going to the hairdressers - they NEVER listen - they ALWAYS think they know my hair better than me (its EXTREMELY thick...) I became friends with a girl through friends and now she does my hair from her house - or my house, She is doing it about 2 years now and knows my hair and I feel I can talk to her about it without feeling like a dope.
Those top stylists used to talk over me and refuse anything I asked as it "wouldn't suit" When I would know myself that it would as I would have had it before.

I wouldn't bother complaining, you will get nowhere with them - and just pop into a smaller salon the next time, where the stylists will actually listen to you.

I won't go to T&G in the past (not sure if now) they were trained in a small number of basic haircuts which they then adapted. This often meant that I never got what I wanted as it was based on a specific cut. The layering technique also created uneven cuts which were difficult to grow out. I always had a good colour with them.

To be honest I'd never go into a hairdressers for a complete restyle colour on a first appointment, and I certainly wouldn't if they gave me attitude.

My hairdresser has become a very close friend and I trust her judgement, she knows my hair and me - so when I'm all emotional wanting a massive change, she won't do it!!!

Tbh Toni and Guy are the last place I would go for a hair cut. It's all franchised and I think they do 6 weeks at their training school.

I agree, I wouldn't let an unknown hairdresser completely restyle my hair. Can you ask friends with similar hair types to yours where they go?

Toni and Guy are renowned for only having a handful of 'styles' that they apply to everyone,

My dsis used to work for them, I only went in when she was desperate for a model. I wouldn't go there now, same as pp's. They rely on having a recognised high street name but I wouldn't call them a top hairdresser.

Worst cut I ever had in my life was at Toni and Guy in Cambridge. Took months to grow out.

I used to go to them, but stopped a few years ago because I got sick of never quite getting the colour/cut I asked for, and the persistent cancelling of appointments at short notice. The last straw was when I'd booked for a colour and style for a big event the same night. They tried to cancel me that very morning saying they couldn't fit me in because the stylist was off sick (again). I went nuts at them and they grudgingly squeezed me in, but I refused to go back after that.

I agree with *VimFuego' about them only having a handful of styles. My adult DD and I both went to same salon at different times with completely different hair, mine is really thick, wavy and 'unmanageable' and hers is dead straight.
Both came away with exactly same haircut, layers in exactly same place everything.....
Got a refund on hers anyway!

I went there once and will never go again! The staff at the salon in my hometown were not friendly and I felt incredibly uncomfortable the whole time I was there

I had a terrible cut fro T&G in Winchester, three weeks before my wedding. They hacked at one side and left my then mid length, wavy hair almost impossible to style. Since that experience 9 years ago, I have gone to a small local chain (three or four salons). They always listen, their colourists are Wella trained and have done some super work with hair that is now thick, long and curly, from brunette to blonde to red to burgundy, and back to blonde. (It's Nirvana, Winchester if anyone wants to know, and Stacey and Natalie are brilliant).

I rarely am happy after a trip to the hairdressers, I find it hard to say what exactly I want though.

A few things though are a bit strange I think, you are complaining that he colour didn't last yet you didn't want a permanent colour?
If you wanted the colour to last then you would have had to get a permanent colour. I know you said they only gave you a tint in the end, but a semi would only last a few weeks anyway.
Also loose waves will fall out, depending on your hair type etc how long they will last, so that's hardly a huge issues.

I think you would need to be firmer with them if you want a very specific thing, like the cutting you said you wanted blunt edges. So if someone suggests layers, you need to say 'no just give me Blunt edges please'
It is very difficult to do this, I know. Usually I just nod in the hairdressers and it's usually a disaster.

I went to Toni and Guys, hated it, got them to redo it, still hated it and went to Supercuts two weeks later! The woman at Toni and Guys had terribly conditioned hair, was 'growing out' a style and they all had that ombre colour......should have known from that!!!

Ditto here. Had an appalling cut in T&G in Farnham many years ago. They bloody scalped me - it was horrendous and about an inch long all over. I went in with shoulder length hair! Once they'd started it was too late so I let them carry on - more fool me.

I had my hair cut from T&G in Yorkshire once and had an amazing haircut. Then I went to T&G in Birmingham, he barely cut any hair and then spent an hour blowing drying it into a Cheryl Cole bouffant, never went back.
Current hairdressers are more expensive but worth it.

I think it is better to go to a local place - the staff ( in my experience) are nearly always better.
I used to get my hair cut/coloured for free ( part of my work) by all the big names - but
my hair looks much nicer after the mobile hairdresser does it.

Yanbu I have been to my local t&g in Lincoln a few times now and tbh I've given up hope of ever getting the cut or colour I've asked for. Can anyone recommend a hairdresser in Lincoln ???

thank god my dd is a hair dresser, this all sounds hideous and the fact that you are expected to pay for this crap too !
