We have only one neighbour as we live rural . Our gardens meet and she keeps using my washing line. Everytime I go out to hang up my washing g she has clothes on my line. She has only just started doing this. She has lived next door for 8 months but rarely speaks despite my efforts to be chatty etc (she is very quiet and private and says no more than hello) . Anyways she has suddenly started using my washing line. It's driving me crazy as I have 5 children so have tons of washing. Plus my husband is a farmer so again many clothes to wash . AIBU to politely ask her to buy/put up her own line ??? I wouldn't dream of doing this but maybe I'm an un reasonable bitch and should share ???

Take it off every time!

Maybe tell her it's yours?

Kill her.

Hang her rotting corpse in the line as a warning to others.

She probably doesn't realise it's yours.

Definitely. Could you take your line down too and put it up when you are pegging out your washing, and take it in when you are taking the washing in?

If she doesn't speak that a fairly good way to say it belongs to you!

How does she get in your garden?

Report
LewisAndClark · 16/08/2016 18:13

What? Does she somehow think it's hers? Is there a clear boundary between your gardens?

That's so weird! You should definitely tell her...does she realise it's yours and not communal?

Start wearing her clothes.

Eh? Is she really nipping over the fence with her washing and putting it in a line in your garden?
Just talk to her! Maybe she rents and assumes it's a communal line.
Just tell her it's yours, and ask her not use it. You don't have to share!

Could you also put in another pole and then you could have even more line to work with

She definitely knows it's mine as it's in my garden which is seperate to hers . It's very obvious it's not communal. She started using it about 4 weeks ago. Before this she would use one of those clothes horse prop things in her garden 😯

That's outrageous!!

Take off her clothes and leave them in a pile on her doorstepGrin

Remove her washing. Post it back through her letter box.

Replace the washing line with an electric fence.

She rents the property off us as it's part of our farm but it's very obviously seperate gardens and like I say for months she has used a plastic clothes horse in her garden. Everytime I go out with my load of washing she has my line full of her families clothes. I just don't know why she would think this is ok ??? She is so quiet and shy that I don't want to embarrass her . She may think I'm being g spiteful. I suppose I could get dh to install a line in her garden ? I just don't understand how she can be so cheeky to use my line

Yep, take it off and put it in her garden. If you're feeling charitable you could put it in a bag. If not, just fling it over the lawn. She'll soon get the message.

How can you have let this go on for four weeks? Just tell her! The fact that she's been doing it for so long will demonstrate to her that you don't mind!

Take it off, put yours up and then take hers around and just say not sure how this all ended up on my line but here you go I need it myself.

Hah. How very weird! What is she thinking?

In the interests of being neighbourly and avoiding upset I'd probably put pressure on dh to put up a line for her in her own garden Grin

Is she otherwise eccentric???

Well, if she rents from you..providing her with her own is the easy, save face' solution.... Saves any embarrassing confrontations...
Just say, I see you like to peg out, so do I, so I've asked my DH to put a line up in your garden....as there isn't enough room on 1 line for the both of us!

As her landlord did you not think the house needed a line. Maybe because there wasn't one she thought you wouldn't mind. Without a proper line it can be difficult to dry clothes especially if she starts doing it indoors where she could cause damp problems. Best to get your dh to put up a line.
