The fraud is 😳 But tbh the focus should be more of the harm she did to the children rather than the money ff this is very frightening

Poor children

I just don't understand they must of seen somthing medical you can't just give a child a opration because the mother says so we're was the medical evidence to reduce the child's tummy by 20%

She should of been done for neglect and child crulety

YNBU
I'm not sure if prison is the correct place for this women. She's obviously ill, and do the Doctors not need a kick up the arse for just taking her word for it. Did I miss something.

That's what I don't get it's usually so hard to get the doctors to believe anything you say

We're getting our dd tested for somthing won't say what but it's taken

Hv , her social worker and my husband who is a nurse to get just a referral

How convincing was this women

If her motivation for doing this was money then jail is correct but if not and she really convinced herself they were ill then mental health

According to the BBC she was found guilty of child abuse as well

It's like Munchausen's by proxy mixed with greed. I feel for the children poor lambs.

Prison is the right place for her, it sounds like Munchausen's syndrome by proxy judging by the lengths she went to get the attention and money at the expense of her poor, poor children. She doesn't need help, she needs locking away while her children are rehabilitated.

I thought that too, I mean autism ok if you could get a small child to behaviour by promting say in front of doctors. But asthma? And not being able to eat?? Surely a simple peak flow - blow on tube or listening to chest would show no problems at all. ditto feeding problems!

MammaTJ · 15/08/2016 22:05

I feel sorry for everyone concerned. She cannot be well to put her children through all that. The GP was concerned and correctly raised those concerns. The actual Doctors who operated must be so upset. Of course, the children are the worst affected by this.

I don't understand this at all. Surely the doctors are to blame for carrying all these operations out.
As an adult I have had ibs in the past and undergone numerous tests and procedures which have amounted to nothing but an ibs diagnosis as nothing was found. The only reason a doctor would operate is if something untoward was found. This just doesn't make sense.

The BBC says she was convicted of child cruelty too. I would imagine that there is a strong probability that there have been child protection proceedings too.

To be honest I am appalled at the autism diagnosis, there is a very clear protocol for an autism diagnosis, or there is in my area, a set number of professionals carry out the observation, they pretty much follow a script, I am astounded that a child could be coached in that way.

She was very thorough in how she deceived the medics, different Drs, different hospitals, lied about symptoms chose the diseases etc with care.

LynetteScavo · 15/08/2016 22:16

But I do think doctors will believe that parents know their children best. If a parent says their child has X symptoms then a doctor will believe them, as it's very, very rare for a parent to lie like this. -I imagine the mother was at the doctors constantly for years, and will have researched what she wanted to be wrong...something the doctors would have to take her word about.

I found this story horrendous to read. I'm friends with a lot of people who have very disabled children and they would give everything they have to not have to claim DLA or put their children through more surgeries.

How she managed to convince Doctors they needed gastro tubes put in I don't know. A child needs to be seen as not thriving at all to get this, which means she must have been starving them. And as someone else pointed out, autism diagnosis takes a long time and you need to jump through many hoops to get seen, never mind diagnosed so I can't work out how she's managed to bypass the system.

But ultimately, those poor kids have been starved, put into nappies they didn't need, given operations they didn't need and basically been used to gain money.

Oh that's awful! Just when you think people can't get worse

Report
ZippyNeedsFeeding · 15/08/2016 22:31

Asthma could be fairly easy to fake. Most of the symptoms are worse in the early morning, for example and if the mother faked the peak flow charts to show wheezing in the morning and after exercise, then HCPs might not question it. My son has asthma and although the nurse at the clinic has never heard him wheeze, she believes me when I tell her that I have.

Blame the doctors?? Seriously? Damned if you do and damned if you don't when you are a doctor!

How did she fake the autism?!

Dd 3 has just been diagnosed.

It took:

Multiple hv visits
Portage home visits for almost a year
Portage also went to see her at nursery
Nursery reports
Gp reports
Speech and language therapy and reports
And paediatrician visits.

Awful things like this just wind up adding to the belief a few people have voiced to me over the years, that ANYONE can get a diagnosis and half of its made up.

Ffs it's hard enough as it is.

They couldn't have assessed that child properly could they?

Sorry that sounded like all I cared about was that.

Those poor babies. She must have been a very convincing and manipulative liar.

Bitch.

I was shocked that consultants ignored the warning that a paediatrician gave several years earlier that the children might be at risk.

I don't understand how someone gets an operation without proof they need one. Especially stuff such as stomach problems which I assume from the story...they have scans and that to check whats actually the issue before they go cutting pieces off you surely?

The entire story strikes me as fucking insane and...impossible?!

Report
Wdigin2this · 15/08/2016 22:49

I know a person who has undergone serious operations which, it appears, she didn't need! She was constantly turning up at the hospital and her GP's surgery, complaining of unbearable pain, for which they could find no actual cause. I really believe (and I know it's pretty unbelievable) that she was operated on twice....to get her off their system!!

Report
Vickyyyy · 15/08/2016 22:50

But yes, fuck the money, the kids are the issue here. How anyone can be more angry/concerned about benefit fraud when reading this story is beyond me.
