AIBU?

To expect a refund?

This evening i ordered tickets through eventim which is a booking site for Disney on ice in October. The booking site rushes you and gives you a very short space of time to confirm your booking and make payment.

I chose the date i wanted but the time i looked at gave me seats that the site had selected for me so i went back to look at a later time and found how to select my own seats.

Went through the booking and has 2 mins (there was a count down timer) to check the booking, enter my address and card details.

I very quickly scanned the booking and entered my details and with 2 seconds to go i clicked pay now.

Moments later when i looked at the confirmation in detail i had been charged for the show were they had selected seats for me and the show i wanted resulting in a £92 over payment!!

I very quickly rang the customer services to be informed that it was non refundable and it doesnt matter whether it was done in error as it clearly said tickets are non refundable. She said she would put a request through to head office but in her experience they do not refund.

I then contacted my bank who inform me i have to wait for the money to leave my account and then dispute it which takes time etc.

Aibu to expect a refund? Im so fucking cross with myself!

Has this happened to anyone else and they have managed to get a refund?

Exactly the same happened to me a few weeks ago with Billy Connolly tickets. They agreed to refund me the price of the tickets but not the booking fees (so I got 70 back instead of 80). I accepted because I couldn't be arsed.

Was it the same company as i ve used?

I think the booking fee was £2.50 a ticket so i think £7.50 is better than losing £92

I did similar with Eventbright but managed to get a refund because I requested it immediately after booking.

It is buyer aware when checking out - your responsibility to check your basket.

The ticketing sites use a countdown as so many people are trying to purchase they try to be fair and ensure some purchasers aren't blocking the ticket sales.

I thought you had 24 hours when making an Internet purchase.
This happened when I booked a spa day, it was my fault as I doubled back on the process to book a different number of tickets but the system reset my date and I didn't notice until the confirmation came through (it was instant). They refused to change it but I found something online about having 24 hours when it's internet. They referred to head office and I got a full refund. Google it... Can't remember what the legislation is sorry... Try the 'which' website?

Don't you have 7 days when making any purchase at a distance rather than there?

None refundable or not they have to give you your consumer rights?

And if you can argue their site is faulty even better.

Ahh apparently events are exempt under the new rules Sad

I feel really pissed about it, they shouldnt rush you like that and not give you enough time to check things properly.

When i contacted my bank they told me they get lots of calls about these ticket booking sites

Sorry OP, was having dinner. Yes it was via eventim. They refunded me the face value of the tickets - they suggested I sell them on to try and recoup the fees if I wasn't happy just to get face value back on them - I couldn't be bothered with selling them on so I took their offer.

while this is true, it won't take aslong as you think. A day or two most likely. As soon as it shows on your statement, the bank should refund it by the end of the day you contact them. or this was the advice that was given to me some months back about something quite similar, and it turned out I did infact get a refund as soon as it showed the company name on the account.

Well they dispute it with the company who took the money and see whos favour to decide in. I have a feeling they will decide with the company as they have it on their website that tickets are non refundable.

I cant believe i ve been so careless and really cant afford to just say goodbye to £92

YANBU if you are only given 2 minutes to enter details and check out. Why are they doing this? It sounds like they are purposely trying to encourage people to make errors which work out in their favour. I think it would be disgusting for them not to give you a refund under the circumstances tbh.

Have you tried putting it on Twitter?

In your shoes I would definitely not be willing to write off £92.

No that was your fault

They give you such a short space of time to check out so other people can buy those seats if you dont check out fast enough.

If you dont check out within the time it wants you to then it takes the tickets out of your basket and then you have to find them again and go through the whole process again.

The timing thing is fairly standard on all ticket booking sites.
They are NBU if they chose to not refund you as it was your error, but would hope they do as wasp says. Especially as you have actually bought tickets from them abs only want to refund the duplicates.
It must happen a lot.

To be fair, they give you enough time to read the ts&cs and check all details

It does feel rushed but the onus is on you to check the details are correct. Otherwise you're blocking the same of other people getting those tickets.

The other thing you can try is seatwave or stubhub and sell them on - for sold out events you can make a profit

I don't use these sites, but if they have not given you the seats you booked, can you not argue your case using that reason?

Report
AppleJac · 16/08/2016 09:58

Its no where near sold out there were plenty of tickets left - its Disney on ice Frozen so not everyones cup of tea!

I ve never booked these type of tickets before someone else has always booked for me who i was going with.

Its a stressful experience

You're unlikely to win a dispute with your bank. They'll ask for proof that the transaction is legitimate, the company will provide the order details. There's nothing wrong with the transaction, as such - it's not fraudulent, they haven't taken more than you agreed.

I'd call the tickets place back and nicely explain what has happened until you find someone willing to refund you the face value of the tickets. It may take some time, especially if the shows are unpopular so reselling those tickets is unlikely.

I did exactly the same with very expensive priority seats and meal tickets for Mrs browns boys. Spent over £400 instead of £200. I rang the ice arena and they refunded in full without quibbling. I'm 99% sure it was through eventim but I then rang the venue direct to resolve.

Mine was Nottingham Ice arena by the way. (I'm going to frozen there too) so you may be at the same venue and they were helpful.

Personally I think no. You messed up and tickets are non refundable so you shouldn't be offered a refund

Yeah - because I bet this would be EXACTLY your position if you had made this entirely understandable mistake Hmm
