AIBU?

To put a box dye over my freshly highlighted hair?

Just paid £70 to have my hair turned into a stripy yellow mess Sad in devastated. I love my natural hair colour and just wanted a few honey caramels putting through but didn't want a colour change at all. I've come out with a complete mess.

It's yellow all over, stripy and the stripes start about 2cm from my scalp so it looks a few weeks old already.

I want it sorted immediately as I'm off out tonight and going on holiday tomorrow. Can I put a light ash blonde hair dye over my hair? Will this help blend it all a bit more?

Please help SadSad

This happened to me once -I put a brown colour all over terrible stripy blonde hair. It was ok but it faded fast! I'd definitely do a patch test and accept that it might not turn out anything like the photo on the box.

Go back to the hairdressers! Why did you pay if it looks crap?

If they are decent they will sort it free of charge.

I wouldn't risk it. Blonde home hair dyes are iffy at the best of times.

What's your natural colour?

I wouldn't as it will be really porous and you'll have no idea what the resultant colour will be. It's probably not as bad as you think so enjoy tonight and call hairdressers first thing for them to rectify - they won't be able to do anything if you put more colour on it.

Sorry it's happened, it's rotten, but do go back and speak to the manager

I once came out of the hairdressers looking like a Halloween pumpkin with my orange stripey hair - I'd asked for copper highlights Hmm

I covered them with a permanent colour to match my own and it didn't harm my hair.

SadSadSad I'm off on holiday tomorrow, no time to go back.

Is there nothing I can do now? It looks dreadful.

I will contact salon at some point but just want to fix it now for tonight and my holiday.

It's not that bad. You just need a toner.

It looks fine-go and buy some purple shampoo. Honestly it's ok Flowers

Honestly? Its not dreadful. I would ring the hairdressers, arrange for a corrective appointment on your return and just live with it on holiday. Don't risk chucking anything else on it.

L'oreal Casting crème gloss shade number 1010 iced blonde sorted a similar problem for me once. It turned a borderline ginger colour into a natural looking neutral blonde, which is no mean feat. I don't know any other box colour that can do that without going grey, green or just making it more orange. I did some research on the internet beforehand and this one generally gives good results. I've had my hair wrecked by hairdressers more times than I care to remember...

It's not perfect, but it's no where near as bad as it sounded in your OP. I'd leave it alone. Unless your pics are really off its not yellow.

It really doesn't look too bad. But it's not what you want, so I'd call the hairdressers first thing in the morning to register your displeasure, and book in to get it fixed when you return.

Purple shampoo!! I think it's called a touch of silver? It'll help, promise.

A few washes, that will settle right down. Its fine but use a different colourist next time.

Touch of silver twice weekly brightening shampoo (dw about using it more than once in one day if you have to though) . You can buy a bottle in pound land.
Calm down.
It's not THAT bad.

It's fine. Not great, but fine. A home dye could make it a whole lot worse. Step away from the Clariol Smile

It's not bad. Like the colour, just could've been a tiny bit nearer your scalp. I wouldn't touch it if I were you

I could probably pick up purple shampoo on my way out tonight and wash before I go early next morning. Will it really help?

I promise it is bright yellow in real life and my hair was a really nice colour before. I didn't want a change, just a little hidden shimmer type thing so I really wasn't expecting it and I absolutely hate it.

Are we sure an ash blonde hair dye won't help?? Shall I try it on a strand?

It's fine. Ring them tomorrow & tell them it needs sorting out when you get back if you aren't happy, but for gid sake don't add a box dye into the mix or you're likely to end up green/orange/patchy.

A touch of silver shampoo- the intensive one that you leave on for 5 mins twice a week. Anti dandruff shampoo is meant to fade colour as well
