Just spent the last half hour browing for something to watch for me and dh's date night in and apart from a small handful of big name movies I've already seen, the rest seem to be absolute crap. Pity because it's spot on for tv shows. Or am I missing something?

YANBU it's all shit. I want a new perfect movie but keep watching movies I've seen before, bah!

We enjoyed obvious child recently. It's an American indie film about an abortion after a one night stand. Comedy though.

Maybe you need to try something different? There are some great foreign language films on Netflix for example. Big name doesn't mean great film and by the same token not having heard of it doesn't mean it's bad.

DH and I enjoyed Tallulah last weekend, about a drifter who kidnaps a neglected toddler and tries to persuade her ex's mother that it's her (the drifter's) baby. Less depressing than it sounds; has had good reviews. It's a new for Netflix movie.

I will watch pretty much anything with Allison Janney and Ellen Page, though.

YANBU. I've just signed up for the free trial as I've broken my leg and am bed-bound. It's all old, or shite (or both!)
Goes without saying I'll be cancelling after the free month...

Flicking through the list out of curiosity (don't have it myself), the following films are on my "quite fancy watching" list:
Brooklyn
Lobster
Bright Young Things
Django Unchained
Guardians of the Galaxy (again)
Kings Speech
Beasts of No Nation
To Kill a Mockingbird
Rear Window
What We Do In The Shadows
Maleficent

And that's just the first three pages, ranked by rating.

Thanks for the suggestions! I do ike foreign drama but even the last few of them I've watched on Netfix have left me underwhelmed. Tallulah sounds right up my alley!

Get NowTV. Much better films. Netflix is better for series.

HughLauriesStubble Sat 13-Aug-16 19:52:50

I'm in Ireland so no Now TV here unfortunately sad

Brooklyn, it's not the type of movie I usually watch but I really enjoyed it.

I've watched The Lobster and Love, Rosie in the past week and enjoyed both. Planning to watch the Little Prince tomorrow grin

The fundamentals of caring is really good
Bad Neighbours, The Purge X 2, Hush, 22 jump St. I noticed Ghost was on the other day too

Defiance was brilliant, it has Daniel Craig in it. Bit slow at first but great when it gets going.

YABU if you have not yet watched Stranger Things

PinkyPlumet Sun 14-Aug-16 10:50:46

World war z is amazing! I've watched it about 6 times and I'm still not bored of it blush

RooDaisy Sun 14-Aug-16 10:51:40

World War Z is awesome and yes, to stranger things

WidowWadman Sun 14-Aug-16 10:52:26

"Look who's back" is great if you like foreign drama

Southernc0mfortmirror Sun 14-Aug-16 10:53:50

Brooklyn was really good. Oranges and Sunshine is good too, but quite heavy subject matter.

IJustLostTheGame Sun 14-Aug-16 10:54:34

Stranger Things is awesome.

gingerboy1912 Sun 14-Aug-16 10:59:34

U2HasTheEdge Sun 14-Aug-16 11:01:43

If it wasn't for the fact that we are half way through a series I would cancel it. It is shit for movies.

DerelictMyBalls Sun 14-Aug-16 11:37:23

Try some of the old black & white films, some of them are really good. Last week we watched 'No Man Of Her Own' with Barbara Stanwyck and really enjoyed it. Last night we saw 'A New Leaf' - a very silly black comedy with Walter Matthau - really funny.

Definitely watch Stranger Things if you haven't already! Also, American Horror Story series 1.

cozietoesie Sun 14-Aug-16 11:47:31

A New Leaf is hilarious. grin
