AIBU?

I also don't rate interfering busybodies.

Not immaturity as I know immature people who don't do this.

Usually bored types who did. Bit of entertainment for them

Yes, plus low self-esteem as it makes them feel (temporarily) superior to whomever they're gossiping about.

Even worse is pretending its'concer' or 'worry.' That's chucking hypocrisy into your toxic mix.

I wouldn't say so. It can lonely older people who do this.

Derek and scaryteacher - you've both got a point but I suppose I mean emotional immaturity in the sense that while they're doing this, by definition , they're not investing in their own lives.

Then again, what people define as maturity etc is subjective to a large degree.

I had the mothers at my sons school start rumours about me. They are all 35+ and I'm 25.

I put it down to just been so bored of their own lives. Yet I wish mine was as interesting as they made out and spread

I don't know what it is. Emotional immaturity? But it is a real bugbear of mine. Particularly nosiness because it is usually blatantly obvious what they are doing and I cringe when it happens.

Just yesterday I got a message from a friend who rarely contacts without an agenda. Said she had seen (from her house) an ambulance and fire truck outside my row of houses and was asking me if "all was ok?" I hadn't seen a thing and replied accordingly for her to respond that it "looked like" it was at X neighbour's house. Really? Well fucking ask X then if you what to know her business. Hmm I said all was quiet now so I had no idea. I guarantee you she will have gone on to message anyone else she knows who is associated with X and may even have contacted X herself "out of concern" which considering that there was an ambulance and fire truck (apparently) is a pretty intrusive thing to do. But I know she will have done it. I'll find out soon enough because she'll have to tell me. She also complains of nosey people in our town Grin

The immature people I know are self obsessed and thoughtless/inconsiderate with others.

Two of my friends have a lot of knowledge/information but are trusted, considerate and have a number of good friends.

Theres a huge difference between friends supporting each other with real issues and spreading information for entertainment. How people talk about others generally is important. Unkindly or kindly.

JenLindley - makes me cringe as well - yuk!! I hope the apparent situation you describe turned out OK in the end!

I HATE when people say "I know this sounds nosey but..." Or "you must excuse me I'm nosey.." as if this sort of justifies asking personal questions !!
Aargh!!

I have since seen neighbour X, her partner and their DC and all seem perfectly well. The partner was at work yesterday evening so I assume all is OK.
