To ask you all what contraception you use?

Haven't used any contraception for years, between being pregnant and breastfeeding both dc's I've just used condoms.
Went to the clinic today and the nurse was very pushy about me having a coil fitted and how with new research its safer and that the pill really increases risks of blood clots and depression etc.
I opted for the pill for now until I make up my mind on the coil. She gave me a none branded version of yasmin as I also suffer with adult acne and was hoping the pill would help that too.
Is the pill really that dangerous?

I'm just useless at remembering to take it.

I've got a Mirena, had it about a year. Love it. 12 hours of light pink spotting once s month is all I get in terms of a period and I've actually lost weight since it went in.

Implant. I love it - had no periods in six years. Grin

The idea of the coil always made me queasy, even though having something pushed into my arm didn't. No logic.

Could never remember to take pills.

Partner doesn't get on with condoms.

The implant, got it straight after youngest DS was born (an hour after). Pill doesn't work, condoms not for us, coil makes me cringe, can't think of anything else haha.

Mirena. Now on my 4th (had one 16 years) No periods other than some occasional very light spotting.
Couldn't be happier with it TBH

Yes she did a full demonstration of how they fit the coil and it made me feel a bit queasy.

They love people to have a cool fitted as it's cheap for them to maintain. I had a mirena and as much as it is great in that you don't have to do anything, it made my acne worse and in different places (neck)

Moods were really varying too.

Was pleased to have it out and skin took a few months but went to how it was before.

'They' will tell you all this was imagined. It is localised hormones (sure they don't travel in the blood stream Hmm ) and talk you around when you ask for it out. Unless it's ttc.

The pill is hassle for them, repeat prescriptions, people not using it right etc.

It pisses me off we are meant to be grateful for all our options now when actually when you take away hormonal there isn't that much left that isn't condoms (ignoring the copper coil - which for me heard too many stories or horrendous periods)

Long reply - sorry to answer you I don't use any as was ttc for 10 months and no success. Have stopped ttc now and just not using anything (I'm over 40 so it's not that likely to happen and if it does that's ok)

(So not really helpful!)

I get the depo injection. Had no issues with it at all. Btw the nurse shouldn't be pressuring you to get a hormonal contraception!

I used the pill for years untill it made migraines worse so now copper coil as keen to avoid all hormones incase sets off my head again. I get the idea freaks some people out. But once it is in you never notice it and it lasts bloody ages!

I have the mirena

Getting it removed in a few weeks (counting down the days)

I've given it a good go. Had it over a year and I am just not agreeing with it.

No libido, mood swings, anxiety and depression are all worse.

The doctor just nodded when I said I had them and booked the appointment no questions asked

The pill is somewhat dangerous. You should not smoke, and get yourself tested for inheritable diseases that increase your risk for blood clots before taking any pill. Also, there's a new generation of pills that are more dangerous, but I can't recall the details right now. Should be possible to find them via google.

However, someone being pushy is not a good sign. Inform yourself on all the methods you can use, don't let someone push their favourite method on you.

If I had sex, I would prefer condoms. Sperm increases risk for vaginal infections so that's two birds with one stone, three if you have sex with people you don't trust to be STD-free.

I just say no Grin

Trying to get him to have the snip tbh. My hormones are terrible pre menstrual etc and we have a brood. I don't want any more. The pill doesn't seem to help me. I don't fancy the coil.

Condoms here I'm afraid Sad

Thanks everyone, looks like it's quite popular then and not heard from many on the pill yet. Yes that does count eve Smile unfortunately my dh isn't ready for that even though we have decided on no more children we are still not 100%.
I get migraines now and then, maybe the pill isn't a great idea then?

I have the implant - I currently have no children so didn't fancy the idea of a coil (Everyone says it's easier after children?!)!

Over the course of a week I stay at work/my flat/ my boyfriends so couldn't trust myself to remember the pill. Wasn't suitable for the patch, didn't want the injection (incase I didn't like it I couldn't get it removed) so implant was only real option.

I love it - no problems, slightly hormonal once a month but nothing unusual, couple of spots on the top of my arms but minus that all good, I'm still losing weight (on a diet) so I'm pretty happy with it overall

Got pregnant (twice) on the Pill & I'd swear I was taking it correctly.

Atm, luck Blush wanted a coil but gp won't fit it until I've finished bf youngest as there's an increase in it going too far & rupturing?! As muscles as still soften when bf. Something like that.

She gave me mini pill & I was bleeding almost continuously (2days here & there not) for 5 months. Tbf we have a shockingly bad sex life atm anyway...

Watching what others do with interest.

Most of my friends have the same.

Another Mirena user (or holder?? not sure of the right term...) here.

I love it! I'm acne prone and had break outs at first but soon stabilised. Occasionally get a period but it's more like spotting accompanied by cramps. I had bad cramps as it settled but taking Buscopan wiped those out.

I was crap at taking the pill and it started giving me headaches, plus I'd get crippling feelings of depression and anger every time I had PMS. Then a few friends and my sister got pregnant on it after missing a few, so I knew it was only a matter of time. Definitely did not want a baby.

Implant for me. I've only had it in for two months though but so far so good!
And no period yet either Grin the thought of a coil freaked me out.

Pill, was Yasmin now the generic version, more for the mood and skin effects than contraception as currently single.

I tried a mirina, liked it at first but it did affect my skin, was great for no periods and mood stabilisation thou. Decided not to have it replaced, went with nothing for 6 months, skin didn't improve and PMS was horrible. Went on microginon, slight improvement to PMS but still bad skin, swapped to Yasmin and it's great. No PMS clear skin and I run 3 strips back to back so only 4-5 light periods a year at a time of my choosing.

I will be gutted if they try to say I'm to old for it. I have even given up smoking to enable me to continue taking it for longer.

I've had the coil for years. I think it's out of date so we've been using condoms for the last 6 months just in case. At some point I'll make it to the doctors to have it replaced Grin
