Summernights56 · 09/08/2016 22:03

I've been losing this for the past four weeks. I was only two stone overweight to start with.

What have you changed to lose the weight OP? Could be 'normal' if you'd mostly stopped eating.

That sounds a lot and probably (hopefully!) unsustainable.

Are you eating?

Have you been trying to lose?

What have you been doing?

What have you been doing to lose the weight? If something, I'd like to know right now please and thank you. If nothing, it may be worth getting tested for type 1 diabetes.

Depends how you have done it. It's a lot in terms of long term maintenance

Eating about 500 calories a day.

500 calories a day is far too little so why are you surprised you are losing weight? Crash diets never work in the long term.

You've been eating 500 calories a day and are concerned that you're losing weight very rapidly as a result? Are you on glue?

Helloitsme88 · 09/08/2016 22:26

I would be a grumpy hangry cow if I lived on 500 calories a day. Crash diets are the worst and not sustainable

Report
troubleinstore · 09/08/2016 22:29

Jeez... stop now! 1500 calories should be sufficient to lose a sensible 2lb a week, plus up your exercise a tad. You'll put it all back on very quickly as soon as you revert back to normal eating if you don't do it gradually.

500 calories a day is far too little.

Slow and steady is the safest way to lose weight, with a healthy diet, smaller portion sizes and exercise. It's also the most likely method for maintaining your new weight.

Helena will be along in a minute to tell you about gallstones! At this rate you are probably in danger of getting them. Honestly, that's too quick.

I didn't think I would lose that much.

500 calories a day!! You must be STARVING. Literally.

Oh don't be so utterly daft

By all means eat 500 calories a day - are ou doing something like Cambridge? But I'm amazed at your faux surprise that this has resulted in rapid weight loss

Honestly - some people (walks off muttering )

Champagneformyrealfriends · 09/08/2016 22:33

That's not sustainable. 1500 calories a day is sustainable and gently in my opinion.

Why are you asking?

You're on an abnormal diet and you're surprised it's caused abnormal weight loss? Confused

FGS - 1200-1500 calories a day is more like the right amount! I'm 5'2 and have a small frame; my normal replacement calorie intake is about 1500-1600. If I eat just 200 less than that per day, I lose weight at a stable and healthy 2lb a week.

Only 500 calories a day is crazy, eating disordered stuff, most people would be fainting on the floor by bedtime on that. Not healthy.

Of course you are. What did you expect?
You'll lose a lot of lean muscle doing that. Make sure you replace it once you're at your target weight.
500 is way too low for someone with only two stone to lose, as I'm sure you know. Too much of that and you're into cardiac muscle damage territory.

500 calories a day is only a bit less than the extreme diet they assign to people who will otherwise develop type 2 diabetes (600 cal per day for a few months I believe).

If you're not on the brink of type 2 diabetes op then I suggest you choose a healthier approach. 1200-1500 daily is much better for you (also try being more active if possible).

Being obese is terribly unhealthy and dangerous. So is being anorexic.

Please book an appointment with your GP first thing tomorrow and discuss your diet. Short, medium and Long term effects of starving yourself are not pleasant ore attractive, and the quicker you get help, the better you will feel and look.

You're quite right, losing 5 pounds a week is not normal, neither is eating 500 calories a day. Stop this ridiculous (non) eating plan right now and start eating healthily. If you've already lost 20 pounds then you are nearly at your desired weight so just eat normally from now on. Be prepared for some of the weight you have lost to go back on as soon as you start eating properly again though.
