AIBU?

to want to walk out?

My boss is intolerable.

I work for a small independent firm and my boss ( the owner ) is getting worse by the day. He's rude, knows it all, is disrespectful, cannot say please or thank you and is generally unpleasant. He takes no interest in our lives "how was your weekend?" type questions go unanswered.

There are 2 others working for him and they feel the same way so it's not just me...

I'm getting to the end of my tether with him and I feel like crying, it's hard to find another job in this area.

He was out of the office today, I had to call him to run something past him (we can't do much without his permission) and he was rude again. It's not always what he says that's the problem, it's his tone Sad

How do I deal with this? The temptation to walk out is getting too much. Please help.

I've worked for someone similar. He was really passive aggressive and whatever I did was never right. He sighed a LOT. It's extremely draining, you have my sympathy!

All I can say is don't let it get to you. I stuck it out for 6 months before finding something else and it felt like the longest 6 months ever.

Don't stoop to his level. In fact, you could try killing him with kindness. Be OVERLY well-mannered, lots of pleases and thank yous. He may realise the error of his ways. At the very least, it'll probably drive him mad Grin

Honestly though, bad bosses are awful. I would start looking at opportunities to find something different, even if it takes you a while. YANBU.

It depends.

He's a rude twat but do you like the actual work? Do you like your colleagues and is the money ok and the holidays etc? If they are then I would be as zen as possible and Rise Above whilst job seeking like mad.

If all the above is negative and you can afford to leave then maybe you should. However it's easier to get a new job whilst employed.

I doubt it's personal, he probably is just unpleasant and has no friends or social skills. Sounds fairly horrid though so good luck.

Look for a new job. You spend a lot to of your time at work. It's not worth it being unhappy!

If things have got worse lately, is your boss stressed and under pressure?
Some people start micro-managing when they feel things sliding out of their control.
Of course he may just be a poor manager with no social skills
