AIBU?

To be shocked by Channel 4's new programme?

Sorry if this has already been done (I had a look to see if there were any others but couldn't find any).

So I haven't don't want to seen it but I've heard that Channel 4 has released a new programme called Naked Attraction. A selection of women or men stand in pods completely starkers and they get revealed from the bottom up. There is then a contestant who eliminates one of the candidates based on things they don't like about them.

AIBU to think this is appalling, body shaming people and objectifying people? Do people agree or do I need to lighten up?

I am not easily shocked but I was stunned at this. What a weird way to decide on a date. Do they look at their genital region first? I've not seen it and tbh I was wondering the same thing. Bizarre.

No, they start at the feet and work up. When they have narrowed it down to two objects, they themselves get naked for them to tear apart is my understanding of it.

I just don't see how this was approved as an idea.

That's why I'm asking. Am I overreacting? I'm prepared to be told I am.

Even I was a tad shocked and offended - after copping a view of some cocks I changed channel

It was bizarre, but on the whole everyone was very complementary about everyone else's bodies!

I watched it, it was like an advert for keeping your clothes on for as long as possible.

I can't say that I found it shocking, just cringingly crap.

I think it might be shocking for us... But totally normal for anyone under 25. Sadly!
When Channel 4 first started in the 80s my grandparents probably thought it was shocking.

I watched it and found it quite shocking. They dismiss one person based only on seeing their bottom half, so genitals and legs. Then move up and dismiss more people for their torso, genitals and legs etc etc. They stand there openly criticising the body parts of the people in front of them. I found it unpleasant and won't be watching again.

I am not sure why pps think we shouldn't discuss whether we like a tv programme or not.

I watched it and I simply found it boring as fucking. Not even the cocks brightened the experience. I won't be watching it again, but I wouldn't say it was shocking personally.

My friends watched it- and yes they found it both shocking AND boring at the same time. Not at all sexy- people reduced to body parts- sounds grim.

Initially I found the idea shocking but having watched an episode people were mostly complimentary about each other and I don't think it's any bad thing to have properly naked bodies on tv. I think it's a bit educational to see different body types. The concept might be a bit thin but I like the openess.

It's dire. But don't think it's just men looking at women. It's not. It's women looking at men. Women looking at women. Whatever way. It's just a bit gross to be honest.

Where's the mystery? Where's the anticipation and waiting and imagining. Oh well. I'm just old and prefer it done differently

I've not seen this one but the undressed one I've seen sounds worse for cringeworthy TV, IMO.

Couple on a first date undress each other to their undies and then sit on a bed and have a discussion or do yoga poses... Watched one episode not for me

Watched it last night and they show the bottom half of the body first, dismiss contestants according to pure physical. They then show top half, dismiss based on physical, then you hear their voice. It's weird, superficial bollocks IMO. Ok, so physical is the first thing you notice, but it just reinforces the whole physical is all crap. Awful stuff, nothing to do with personality, shared interests or anything. The girl I saw last night, blonde, northern, dismissed one guy as being too wide for her 'to straddle'. Unbelievable.

I just think it's so boring - did all the women need to be size 8 with a cup breasts and shaved fannies?

Report
Roussette · 06/08/2016 22:30

Yes. Why would you just dismiss a guy or a man based on what's between your legs. Unbelieveable.

Saw it once and won't bother again.

Boring,pointless and vaguely bullying.

I have never made a decision to date someone on the basis of their naked genitalia!
You crazy young folk!

I know it's men and women. And their nakedness doesn't bother me. It's the focus on people's appearances rather than their personalities.

Betty, I am under 25. Confused
