AIBU?

To wonder why some people are ignored on MN

Some people always seem to be inadvertent thread killers don't they?
What makes people ignore others on MN? Surely somebody who is always ignored (I'm not one of them, I'm sometimes replied to, sometimes not) is not always at fault?

Or is MN just a place for us to spout our views and not listen to the views of others? I'm often never guilty of this of course Grin

I don't think specific posters are ignored are they? It's a big site with lots of posters and many use the active function which means threads drop out of view. I also think on a big site like this only stand out threads get loads of replies, hence why there is so much trollery

Is that what the ninja thread is about? I am too scared to post on it as I am a surefire threadkiller and if I kill the threadkiller thread then maybe the world will end. I'm off now....

There was a thread I read yesterday about a man giving his two sons the same first name. Someone commented she had the same name as her half sister. EVERYONE ignored her and kept talking about Henry VIII (who apparently named had several children named Henry) Hmm
It's a weird phenomenon and the Ninja thread is where we thread killers and the terminally ignored hide

I posted on a thread killers thread once and, guess what, I got ignored! (but my message was particularly boring) :)

There are some posters who I try to avoid engaging with but generally it's subject matter that's the deciding factor if I post or not.

could it be they are just a bit dull?

I think you have to work hard on here to get noticed and become a 'regular' because you're just one voice amongst many. And I guess the thread killers thread is just the same, there are now loads of people who post on it so some posts get 'lost'. I've been on mumsnet for 7 years now and have successfully avoided building any kind of relationship with anyone!

There are some posters here that I do ignore , those who live in AIBU for example and start bollocky attention seeking threads.

I won't contribute if the thread is about something I'm not familiar with anymore, ie babies, sleeping and feeding or mad MiL's.

I think it's a misconception that all posters that don't name change want to be 'noticed'. I have never felt the need to name change but have been invisible at times over my 5 years here.

I've been here 4 years under a few names and often ignored... due to my crippling anxiety and depression I just assume it's because everybody hates me which is a shame because I have things I'd love to get off my chest with somebody that actually cares

Wedonottalk, that sounds rough. It could just be that the constant name changes mean nobody has had a chance to get to know you?

Some of us just sum things up so well in our posts that there's nothing more for anyone to add!

So I tell myself... Grin

I wouldn't say anyone is deliberately ignored? I only post on threads I find interesting, & rarely respond to individual posts - but I've never got the 'popular' girl thing. I've read a few posts from the mega stars of MN & can't see what the fuss is about, they're not saying anything mind blowing or anything that other posters aren't? I guess you just have to build up a reputation & spend an awful lot of time on here to get noticed.

I don't think people are deliberately ignored ever. I can't imagine people going "well I would reply to that, but it's from Witchend" so I'll sit on my hands". Unless possibly it's a known goady poster perhaps. And even then they'll usually get someone calling them out on it.
I think the example given is probably more that the conversation had moved on and something else was being discussed which people found more interesting by then.
If people post things that are no revelation to the thread, not controversial, and not needing support, then there isn't a person who is there to acknowledge each reply.
I've certainly had times when I've posted a reply that I thought added to the discussion and it's been ignored. Sometimes, particularly on a fast moving thread, it's because the discussion has moved beyond my answer, sometimes I don't know why.
But other times I put a flip or fairly bland post and get lots of replies.
It's a case of who is on and how they're feeling, I guess.

I occasionally lurk because I don't have anything good to say.

If I honestly don't know an answer, I won't reply.

It is weird here sometimes. A couple of weeks ago, I started a thread with M&S in the title - usually a guaranteed crowd pleaser - not one response! However, I have had replies on others.

I occasionally post on a thread where everyone is very welcoming and friendly.

So far I've been pretty comprehensively ignored even when I have answered questions. It's very odd. They are so nice to newbies.
