To think we deserve a recession?

Although it will hurt my family, my wage and DPs wage, I kind of think we deserve to be punished for being 'the stupid brits' who voted for brexit. I voted remain and sincerely wish we had, but now we are leaving I think we deserve what we get. In future people might think twice.....

I don't want a recession, trust me! I have children to feed and I'm not rich. But when I see QE and interest rate cuts that benefit no one but the bankers I think people ought to own the crap they bought and perhaps realise the grass is the same crappy grass they had before. Only now weedol is more expensive.

I'm not at all blase about it. I'm sickened. I'm not sure I am in a position to survive it. I work in the public sector and DH has just got a new job that may not work out. I am absolutely not sitting at the top of an ivory tower here. I'm scared for the immediate future but I'm more worried about the legacy we leave

If you mean "If we get a recession then we have no one to blame but ourselves" then say so, but to say that all of those who are living literally on the breadline, and many below it, deserve things to get worse then you are a bloody idiot.

Yes you will struggle, but you work, your DH works. What about those who cant work. Those who already struggle to put food on the table? How on earth can you say that they deserve things to get even worse? I hope that you give to your local food bank, because if we do get a recession then they will need your donation more than ever.

In a recession the 48% Remainers will suffer as much as the 52% Leavers. I voted remain and don't see why I should suffer because of other people's bad decisions (more than we are all inevitably going to anyway, due to Brexit).
I don't think anyone deserves a recession for exercising their democratic rights. A lot of people who voted Leave were already marginalised, disenfranchised and financially struggling. They voted Leave in the hopes of improving their lot. Okay, they were sold a pup and they bought it, hook, line and sinker, but I don't believe they should be punished for it. Nor should people aged under 18 who didn't even have a vote.
Sounds like you are advocating the notion the "Democracy is the theory that the common people kow what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard". That's bitter and cynical. So, no.

The referendum has proved that just because people vote the same, it doesn't mean they are the same. And, I imagine, that goes for those who voted brexit.

Watched the brexit gogglebox special during the week. One woman was pleased we voted out largely because we'll be able to but bendy bananas and cucumbers again. Whilst astonishingly frustrating, we are where we are and I don't think hoping it gets worse out of spite is the answer

Now I'm not a fan of his fiscal policies, but the economy was growing (albeit slowly) and was growing faster than had been expected pre-Brexit, against some expectations that we were heading back to recession anyway.

I think we would have grown faster with more gentle deficit reduction but I do think it's fair to blame Brexit for a long of the economic woes to come.

I get where you're coming from OP. The desire to say 'I told you so' is very tempting, but we would all be caught up in it so I really hope it works out ok.

Not 51% of the country - 51.9% of the turnout - which is equivalent to 37% of the electorate and a smaller percentage of the country.

Regarding a recession "teaching the leavers a lesson", I think that judging by the daily optimistic / lying through their teeth Express headlines mean that it will take a long time for the penny to drop for some people. And when it does they will blame remainers for talking down the economy.
