To ask if you're NOT vaccinating against Meningitis B what are your reasons?

It's an extremely rare thing to get, the vaccine for it is expensive and the rate of complications drops sharply after age 1 (I think it is - whatever age, was younger than my child is now IYSWIM).

I did vaccinate my youngest for chicken pox on the other hand, because it's rampant, and I'd rather she didn't have it. So I'm not generally against getting 'extra' vaccines.

My youngest was vaccinated for free as part of routine vax schedule. I'm not going to get the older ones done as I can't afford it and they are older than the most at risk population anyway.

Is this for older kids? My DD got vaccinated against this with her other ones at 12 & 16 weeks and will have a booster at a year

Cost. I have three DC so it would be very pricey to get them all done privately.

I fully understand why the NHS can't fund it for everyone, they have finite resources and need to prioritise, but I don't understand why they can't offer it at cost price to those who want it. So if each vaccine costs the NHS say £25 to obtain and provide, why can't they offer it for £25 then people who can't afford to pay privately can still have it done but it isn't costing the NHS any extra money. People on low incomes could have it for free.

Because vaccines are all the biggest medical scam of the last century. The pharmaceutical industry is a MONEY MAKING BUSINESS and there ain't no money to be made from healthy people. Do I trust the government? I most certainly do not. I most certainly do not trust the vaccines or the biased research that supposedly backs them up or the pseudo 'science' behind how they are supposed to work.

After years of doing my own research and coming to the above conclusions, and deep regret at not trusting my own instincts before I did the research and getting my first child vaccinated, I will never, over my dead body, ever let the rest of my children receive a vaccine ever again.

Cost here as well, I did register with boots to arrange an appointment when stock became available, I got the email around 5 days ago to make the appointment. The link only lasts two weeks or so, so I have to make a decision soon. The only way I can afford it is if I lift the money from DS savings, so DP and I are mulling that over, I really don't know what to do!

We didn't know about it. Only read about it on mumsnet in the last few weeks, and asked for info for dc2.

DC1 doesn't want to have the injection. Benefit isn't enormous. DC1 is older, risks are lower, and autistic. Difficult to persuade DC1 to have an injection & we'll save our powder for an injection which is more essential.

Btw the cost to the NHS is significantly more than the £25 mentioned above - it's nearer £100 per dose I think. The reason the NHS can't offer it at cost is, I assume, also to do with the resources (cost/time) required to administrate all those that would want it from the NHS at cost

I was thinking about this today! My dd had her vaccines but my ds is now three so never had it. I haven't had him vaccinated but wasn't sure if that was 'right' so interesting to hear the opinions on this thread

I just got my dds first dose today at a boots pharmacy, i only paid £95 and i will pay £95 for the next one and thats her done. I have a leaflet that lists all ingredients and aluminium and e coli aren't listed (i'll have a proper read once shes in bed to make sure). She's a bit grumpy and has a slight temperature (but that was the same as her previous injections) im not sure if it will be worth it but it will help keep my mind at ease. It was more expensive for me to go through her gp.

My dd got it last week, it's her Xmas present from her grandparents combined. She's 18 months and has some asn so we felt it was more important than more toys and she hasn't got a clue Xmas wise anyway.
I think it's horrific that it comes down to cost, I've worked with children with complex needs resulting from contracting men b as babies, it's a horrible disease and it's prevention shouldn't come down to money

The vaccination contains no live E Coli. Transgenic E Coli is used to produce the meningococcal antigen material. There is an aluminium ( I think) hydroxide. I will also have to provide a bribe, probably mints. That's the most harmful element.

We wouldn't have been able to afford it for our two DDs (under 5) but my parents have very kindly paid for them both to be done. They would have been done sooner but no vaccines were available in our area until July.
