Threads are filled up with people placemarking, it's really annoying when there is a perfectly good bookmark feature that takes you back to the last post you read up to on a thread. Please mumsnet do a post on this!!

How do you bookmark on the mobile site?

Report
MagnumAddict · 02/08/2016 14:57

Not placemarking to find out how to bookmark on the mobile site, I'd never do that...

I do use the bookmark feature but it doesn't help me if a thread goes poof. Nor does adding a thread to my watch list. I CBA spending time searching for threads that have been deleted.

But otherwise, bookmarks are great. Especially when an old thread is bumped and you realise you'd read it the first time.

Yeah it doesn't help if a thread is deleted, but if you add a thread to your watch list so you don't have to search then bookmark where you get to, it'll take u back there when you go onto the thread. Mumsnet need to make it so when you bookmark on a thread it automatically goes onto your watch list.

On the mobile site, when you click on he little dots on each post it should be an option there. If it's not you have to go into settings and customise I think it is, and then you can choose to add bookmarks as an option. It should then appear on the options from the dots on a post.

It would be nice if everyone could colour-code their and the OP's posts too.

Then people might actually RsomeofTFT before having a go commenting when the OP has already backed down.

I don't think it matters, because people placemark for the deletion message rather than to actually placemark. It's just the accepted term.

Am using the app in I phone and if you slide the last post to the left bookmark comes up there .

Atlas15 · 02/08/2016 15:17

It's not the dots but the arrow

Ok so on the mobile site if you go to the main talk page, then click the arrow on the right hand side next to the talk header. That has the customise option, then you can say yes to bookmarks.

What happens if you bookmark more than once in a thread?

People post more so I can discover. 😄

Report
LookMaAStone · 02/08/2016 15:26

It should take you to the latest bookmark when you go back into the thread.....

I am on an android phone and don't have the bookmark option just the PM, report etc. Think the bookmark function is only available on the Apple apps.

GobblersKnob · 02/08/2016 15:31

I can't find a bookmark option even looking where you suggested, am on classic though? I do have mine and op post highlighting on, that is vair useful.

Atlas15 · 02/08/2016 15:34

If you have posted I don't think you can then add it to your watch list.

Report
MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 02/08/2016 15:34

Yep - I can now bookmark.

Doesn't help with the deletion messages though.

I still think MN need a "topic" where they put the thread title and deletion message of a deleted thread...

I'm on an android phone using the mobile site. You need to add the bookmark option to the drop down that you get on each post. Go to the top of the page and there is a little down arrow in a circle on the right hand side. The menu that lets you watch threads. There is a customise option. Then you need to change it to yes for the display bookmark links option.

You might need to go into desktop version to switch it on (option to do this us right at the bottom of the page)

Why is it defaulted to off?

WingDefence · 02/08/2016 15:36

I think this all the time OP! Grin

LookMaAStone · 02/08/2016 15:36

I think in the customise options one of them is to automatically watch threads you post on

No idea why it's default setting is off, wanting to start from where you left off just seems normal to me!

Do you mean just clicking on watch this thread without actually having to post on the thread to place mark? I do that all the time. Just did it on the "asked out my hairdresser" one.

Oooh no I wouldn't want threads automatically posted to my watching list if I bookmark them, it's hard enough remembering where I'm up to as it is. And I don't always notice if a thread has disappeared from my watch list because it's been deleted, especially if the other threads on there have been busy.

One issue with features like this seeming quite hidden, is that they get turned off because only a small percentage of users actually use them. But when the highlighted posts disappeared we all went nuts. And I still miss my floaty bar, I have to have the social media buttons on now instead.

A sticky thread in the newbies corner would perhaps be a good place for stuff like this. It's the little features like this that make MN so much easier to navigate.
